Chisel plow: advantages, characteristics, types and reviews

The chisel plow (IF) is a hinged implement of a rather complex design, intended for deep soil-free loosening of the soil. The width of the seizure of the ground, and consequently, the processing capacity when using this tool is increased by 1.8 times. To loosen the soil with the use of a chisel plow it is possible to a depth of up to 45 cm.

Design Advantages

The width of the grip strip can be up to 12 meters when using this tool. Equipped with such plows spring-loaded struts. Therefore, when using this tool, oscillations are created, which provide additional loosening of the soil. Since each stand of the chisel plow is fixed to the shock absorbers, among other things, the possibility of equipment failure, for example, in case of an accidental approach to an obstacle, is excluded.

Most IF models are complemented by a special toothed or tubular roller. These elements of the plow design are designed for breaking large lumps that remain after plowing and for leveling the field surface . Processing the roller is not too deep - about 20 cm. If the plow is not initially equipped with it, it can be purchased separately.

Pros of application

When using a tool such as a plow deep chisel plow, you can get the following benefits:

  • The reduction of labor costs by an average of 17%;
  • Yield increase up to 30%;
  • Acceptable cost.

Most often, the plow of this design is used for annual planned plowing with the classical technology of cultivation of crops. But it is allowed to use it also to combat soil reconsolidation. In the latter case, the cultivation of the land with this tool is carried out approximately every 3-5 years or once per crop rotation. The annual use of this tool on neglected fields with highly compacted soil leads to a significant improvement in the quality of the latter. Friable, moisture and water-permeable soil becomes already after three years of using the IF.

To penetrate into the soil, the chisel plow can go very deep. In this case, after its use, the plant remains from the previous crop remain on the surface. This ensures the formation of a large amount of humus. In addition, the straw-covered blanket covering the field further prevents the drying of the soil and protects it from wind and solar erosion.

When using simple circulating plows in the soil at the boundary of the arable and subsoil layers, a compacted layer is formed that retards water. This leads to the fact that even with a general deficit of moisture, its runoff from fields is greatly enhanced. A pillow is formed for several years under the weight of conventional plows. When using the drive, since in this case loosening is very deep, this compaction is very quickly destroyed (on some types of soil - it goes much deeper). This feature, of course, can also be attributed to the merits of chisel plows.

What happens to the soil during plowing

Use a chisel plow is recommended in combination with a disc harrow PMM. When plowing with the use of these two tools, the soil creates the most favorable conditions for the accumulation of spring moisture. The fact is that at a depth of 15-20 cm in the ground in this case there is a splitting effect. In this case, the lower layers (up to 50 cm) partially shift and loosen. Plowing the drive is done after one harrow pass, immediately after harvesting the predecessor.

Scope of use

IF plows are used mainly on steam fields (including slopes) when cultivating grain crops. They can be used on any ground, except rocky, in all agro-climatic zones. It is allowed to make plowing with the use of such a plow and on exposed to wind and water erosion soils.

In addition to fields for cereals, the chisel plow can be used for deep cultivation of soil in orchards and vineyards (in row-spacing). Also, this attachments are often used when rejuvenating meadows and pastures, or to improve the drainage properties of the soil.

Types of chisel plows

There are several models of IF drives. Structurally, they are practically no different. The difference is basically only in the width of the capture band. You can find out exactly which specifications are available for this or that model from the table below.

Models IF-2,3 and 4 are used in agriculture most often. However, more productive chisel plows can be used for tillage. The width of capture of some models can be 12 m. But the depth of plowing is usually 23-25 cm.

Manufacturers

Most often Russian farmers use chisel plows of domestic production, since they are cheaper than imported ones. In our country, the HF is produced by many companies: Yugprom, Rostelmash, BDT-Agro, and others. However, the most popular are the plows manufactured by the manufacturer "Altai Machine Building Plant". The products of this company are supplied to the market under the brand name "Almaz". The advantages of the inverter include:

  • Strength and reliability of the structure;
  • Automatic cleaning of the rollers during plowing;
  • Simplicity of repair, etc.

Sometimes domestic fields use, of course, imported chisel plows. Very good reviews of farmers deserved, for example, tools of the brand Lemken. The plows of this German manufacturer are distinguished by their excellent build quality, high productivity and ease of use. But they are, of course, more expensive than domestic ones.

Which tractors are used

According to the recommendations of the producers, the plow chisel, which performs plowing to a depth of up to 45 cm, can be hung on a machine with a capacity of at least 150 l / s. Therefore, such models are most often used with tractors T-150, MTZ 1523, 1822, 2022, etc.

Of course, and on a less powerful technique you can use a chisel plow. MTZ 1221 "Belarus" (130 l / s), for example, copes with it very well. However, in this case an IF is hung on the tractor, making plowing to a depth of no more than 23-25 cm with a working width of 2.4-2.6 m. Also, chisel plows can be depreciated with KhTZ-150K-09, VT-150D, New Holland TM 140 "," John Deere 7730 "and almost any other model of tractors with capacity from 80 l / s of domestic or imported production.

Brief instruction on operation of the chisel plow

It is quite easy to make plowing using an inverter. Before you start the tractor driver, you just need to release the control lever to its free position. As a result, the plow will fall to its own ground under its own weight. When plowing, the drive body of the inverter is additionally supported by the wheels. In some cases, the latter are made of metal. But most often the plows of the IF are supplemented by conventional support wheels with a tire and a camera. Their position, among other things, determines the depth of plowing. Turn at the end of the furrow according to the instructions should be made only after the plow has been transferred to the transport position.

Reviews about plows "Almaz"

The economic efficiency of the chisel plow, as can be seen from all of the above, is very high. Loose the soil of the drive qualitatively and quickly, and work on the field with their use is not difficult. Therefore, the opinion of farmers and machine operators has, of course, only good.

As already mentioned, the most popular brand of chisel plows in our country is Almaz. Most machine operators consider them very reliable. At specialized forums workers of agricultural enterprises even often note the fact that the quality of the Almaz plow assembly is absolutely in no way inferior to the foreign-made production unit. Praise this manufacturer, including for a relatively low cost of products, as well as for a fairly wide range of models.
