Burj Khalifa - the tallest building in the world
After four years in Saudi Arabia are going to build a tower of 1000 meters high. But while the tallest building in the world - located in Dubai (United Arab Emirates) Burj Khalifa (the Tower of Caliph) ,
At the beginning of the third millennium, it was announced the construction of many skyscrapers, each of which was designed as the best and highest. In a sense, this kind of race resembles a biblical tradition about the erection of the Tower of Babel. Burj Khalifa is one of the few projects that was completely finished. In connection with the global financial crisis, most mega-projects were frozen. However, the idea to erect the tallest building in the world continues to be tempting.
Dubai, of course, is not used to monumental buildings, but Burj Khalifa has set a new standard. The construction began on September 21, 2004 and was completed on October 1, 2009, when the final height of 828 meters was reached. Prior to the official opening on January 4, 2010, it was called Burj Dubai. Literally at the last minute it was renamed in honor of the country's president - Sheikh Khalif ibn Zayed Al Nahyan.
Burj Khalifa is not only the tallest building in the world. Coming to a stalagmite, a grandiose skyscraper looking to the Arabian sky is a symbol of the modern central business district of Dubai. Multifunctional building with a hotel, apartments, offices, a giant shopping center, restaurants.
The design of the tower is made according to the patterns characteristic of Islamic architecture, reflects the influence of regional culture, which is important for Dubai. Much attention is paid to the water theme. Water - a repeating element in the interiors. Right at the entrance to the lobby is a swimming pool with a bridge that leads to the inner lobby where the fountain is located. Especially impressive is the huge aquarium, located on three floors. The materials used in the construction represent the highest quality and luxury. At least five of the most expensive building materials used in the design of the interiors of the building.
1200 stores in Dubai Mall Mall attract about 35 million visitors a year, but the main attraction of the shopping center is the largest in the world Gold Souk (Golden Bazaar).
Among the popular attractions are an artificial ice rink and a children's theme park "Country of Adventures".
Impressive panoramic views of Dubai and the Persian Gulf, which can be viewed from the observation deck of the skyscraper.
The project of the building was based on innovative ideas, thanks to which the architects reached a new level in the field of construction. Initially, it was planned to build the world's tallest building, but it was not known what height it really would be.
During the construction in total, 330 thousand cubic meters of concrete, a huge amount of steel and other materials were used up. Several thousand tons of steel (for the upper floors of the tower) was obtained from Germany - processed from the material of the destroyed Palace of the Republic in Berlin.
It was planned that the tower would be only slightly higher than Taipei 101 (508 m), at that time - the tallest building in the world, but the Burj Khalifa far surpassed it.
The author of the Burj Khalifa project is the eminent American architect Adrian Smith, who also developed the projects of the Jin Mao skyscrapers in Shahay and the Azeybajan Tower, which he plans to build in the suburbs of Baku. The construction of the Azerbaijan-Tower will begin in 2013. The height of the building will be at least 1050 meters, when construction is completed (presumably in 2020).
Burj Khalifa - a masterpiece of modern architectural art, recognized throughout the world. In any place, the tower would look like a monumental building, but in the flat terrain of Dubai it is visible from a distance of many kilometers, it makes a terrific impression.
Like the tallest building in Russia, the Moscow Tower (Moscow City), Burj Khalifa is one of the top ten aesthetic skyscrapers in the world.
