Bulbous plants

Bulbous plants have certain characteristics, due to which they can be distinguished from others. The main feature is the special structure of the rhizome. This part is an independent bulb. The rhizome has the ability to develop further under favorable conditions. In the bulb, you can see a round formation of a small size - the Don. Near it are the embryos of roots, which begin to develop in the earth.

When looking at the bulb in the longitudinal section, one can see the rudiment of the flower arrow. Near it are the buds of future leaves. Bulbs are in a way a "pantry". It stores nutrients and compounds. These substances can be activated at any time of the year, so bulbous houseplants can grow and grow, even if planted in autumn or winter. This is what distinguishes them from other species.

It should be noted that bulbous plants grown at home, differ in the variety of colors, ease of care. Due to this many decorative species are popular with gardeners.

It must be said that the most important feature that bulbous plants have is that the bulb contains a certain number of leaves. In this regard, you need to carefully treat their interruption, because in fact they are an element of nutrition. Growing bulbous plants at home, should be cut only dried leaves, those that are about to fall.

Decorative species, as a rule, are thermophilic. Indoor flowers (bulbous) can not be taken out on the street in winter. After all the leaves are dead, you should leave them in the pot and cut the watering to a minimum until the growth is resumed. In this case, there are individual bulbous plants (tuberous begonia, achymene, for example), which must be kept in moist peat, and immediately before the start of development, transplanted into an ordinary pot.

When watering, you should observe special care - excessive dampness can lead to decay. Such bulbous plants, like the Dutch hyacinths, are particularly prone to decay. That is why in the process of forcing it is necessary to be extremely cautious.

Bulbous ornamental cultures feel best in cool and bright places. It should be remembered that low temperatures can be dangerous for them.

For planting bulbs, it is desirable to choose pots, the length of which corresponds to their height. Undesirable too voluminous pots, in which there is too much land, because the substrate is subjected to oxidation at the same time. The most suitable are thin-walled, porous, weakly burnt clay vessels. In this case, the walls of the pots should not be glazed.

A good drainage from a layer of small stones, broken bricks or gravel, covered with chopped gray moss mixed with pulverized coal, will ensure a full flow of water. For better ventilation of the root system, it is recommended to place the pots not directly on the windowsill, but to install them on wooden chips. It is best to water bulbous plants with thawed snow or rain water. If there is no such possibility, then it is possible to apply pre-established, soft water from the tap.

Like other ornamental flowering plants, bulbous plants develop well with regular top dressing. Due to the fact that they grow in a relatively small amount of substrate, the nutrients can be obtained exclusively from the outside with fertilizers. These decorative cultures are better absorbed by watering, in the composition of which there is potassium, phosphorus, nitrogen.

Bulbous plants are a great material for decorating bouquets, baskets, compositions.
