Blood meal: application in animal husbandry, in the garden

A by-product of animal processing is blood meal. It is often used as a fertilizer for animals, birds, as well as fertilizer. The application of the product has its own characteristics. Flour helps to reduce soil acidity, reduce feed costs and not only.

Benefits for animals

The blood meal is rich in a useful protein and is poor in the content of fats and ashes. The product contains up to 75% easily digestible protein, the fat level is close to zero. The digestibility of flour depends on the method of drying the raw materials. After exposure to a temperature of about 70 degrees, the flour is better absorbed by the animal organism. After low-temperature drying, the finished product contains about 80% protein.

Determine how the product was made, easily, if dissolved in water. Blood flours produced at low temperatures almost completely dissolve in water. The one that was produced at high drying temperatures, dissolves poorly in water.

Application of blood meal in livestock makes it possible:

  1. Reduce feed consumption. When compiling a diet, a calculation is made of the protein content of the feed. With the addition of flour, the amount of other feed and additives that feed the animal to raw protein is reduced.
  2. Improve digestibility of incoming feed.
  3. Provide the body of animals and birds with all minerals, amino acids, useful substances, including protein.

Application of flour in animal husbandry

Bloody flour is widely used in animal husbandry. It is added to the feed of poultry, rabbits, pigs, calves, cows. High content of amino acids allowed to replace the blood product with bone meal and other high-protein foods used for fattening.

To verify the benefits of flour, studies were conducted. Scientists compared the results of fattening of two groups of pigs. In the first group was added bone meal, and in the second - blood. As a result, the pigs on the blood feed grew 7% faster than the other.

In animal husbandry, the use of blood flour depends on its quality. This product is considered to be the best source of protein. However, it lacks cystine and methionine, so flour is used in conjunction with other additives.

When preparing the feed, add up to 60 grams of flour per kilogram of mixed fodder. The quantity of the product can be increased. The final volume of addition to the diet of dry matter depends on who is being fed the feed. Poultry and pigs should receive 25% protein from their feed. When preparing the food of blood meal add as much as necessary to bring the protein index to the norm.

Nutrition of blood feed

Fodder raw materials in dry form are much more nutritious than analogues of other forms. This can be seen from the table below.

Drying methods

Various methods of drying are used in the production of flour. Conditionally they were divided into two groups:

  1. Low temperature drying. The product is produced at a temperature of 55 to 85 degrees.
  2. High temperature drying. When drying, the temperature rises from 86 to 100 degrees.

Each batch of the finished product must be tested. To do this, take a sample from each bag. As a result of the tests, the composition of the product and the humidity level are evaluated. The optimum humidity is 10%. The lowest temperature at drying allows to receive more qualitative product.

Application in the garden

Gardeners and truck farmers have found use of blood meal in the garden. This product is cheaper than fertilizers, and quality is better.

A dry substance helps to increase the level of nitrogen in the ground. Flour dissolves well in water, therefore it is possible to prepare liquid fertilizers: 1 tablespoon of the substance is diluted in 10 liters of water.

In addition to making flour as a nitrogen fertilizer, it is also used in the following cases:

  1. If necessary, reduce the acidity of the soil. To find out what level of acidity on the site, you need to take a sample and take it to the laboratory. If it turns out that the pH level is too high, the application of dry flour can normalize acidity.
  2. When yellowness appears on the leaves of plants, flour should be introduced as soon as possible. It contains enough nitrogen to return the plants beautiful green leaves. Fertilizer is applied once a month.
  3. Blood flours help fight pests.

Fertilizer nourishes the plant for six weeks, after which another fertilizing is carried out. When adding dry matter to the ground, and when using liquid fertilizers, you need to monitor the amount. An overdose of flour can burn plants.

In conclusion, it should be noted that the blood meal in Russia is not yet very popular in comparison with the countries of Europe. Foreign cattle breeders practically do not use bone meal, replacing it with blood.
