Alpine violet or indoor cyclamen flowers

Cyclamens-flowers are representatives of the primrose family, this is a perennial plant with a tuberous root. Their homeland is Asia Minor, South and Central Europe. In the wild it can be found in the Caucasus and the Crimea. The population has about 60 species. In shops, hybrids of the cyclamen of Persian and European are found.

Both species are very popular with florists who know everything about cyclamens. Some ignorant people consider these flowers to be rather capricious, however this is a deep delusion. It is enough to properly water and maintain the optimum temperature, then they will be pleased with their flowering for many years.

Cyclamens in shape resemble a flock of butterflies, which flutters over the bush. The color palette is very diverse. The plant blooms in small, reaching up to 5 cm in velvet colors. The height of the peduncles can reach 30 cm, and there are also dwarf species growing to 15 cm. Both flowers have stamens and a pestle (bisexual).

Variety of variety

Cyclamens-flowers have long been grown as an ornamental plant, therefore, for a very long period of time, many different varieties were developed: small, medium and large. With a pleasant aroma and without it, different color and size. For example, the Persian variety begins to bloom in the winter season, and in summer it is at rest.

Usually the flowers do not smell, but there are compact forms (Kaori and Puppet) with a strong flavor. In the rhizome, the processes are only from below, without the daughter tubers.

The European hybrid, on the contrary, "comes to life" in the summer. His flowers are smaller and with a pleasant aroma. The root is also in the form of a large round tuber, from which rootlets grow. Unlike the Persian variety, the European gives the daughter tubers, they are used for breeding.

Care and reproduction

Cyclamen-flowers grow long and abundantly with proper care. The plant likes cool rooms with a temperature not exceeding + 17 ° C. If the temperature is higher, flowering is reduced, the leaves start to turn dull and yellow. During the flowering period, the room should be light, the plant requires abundant watering (without falling on the buds and leaves), when the cyclamen ceases to bloom, it is removed to the shade, laying the pot on its side and not watering for a while. Only need to protect earth from drought.

Sometimes the flower should be fed with a special fertilizer and watered with standing water. If you strictly follow all the rules, then the flowering period lasts about 2 months. At rest, watering is greatly reduced, at the same time, not allowing it to wither. In the shade, the plant should remain until July, and from the end of the month it is gradually started to water and spray.

In September, when young leaves appear, the flower is best transplanted into a mixture of peat, sand, turf and leaf land. Tuber is deeply buried in the soil, covered with moss (1/3 of the top should be bared). After this, the pot is moved to a shady place until the fall, when the flowering begins. It must be remembered that cyclamen-flowers need sunlight in the winter.

Reproduction of cyclamen is carried out in several ways: in summer - by seeds, in spring - by tubers. The flower is excessively sensitive to a dry, warm climate, this can even lead to death. If it is impossible to provide the optimum temperature - it is better to put the pot in a slightly moist peat.

Overmoistening also negatively affects the leaves, they begin to stagnate, turn yellow and rot. Watering the plant, most importantly, do not get on the tuber, you need to water it from the edge of the pot or immersing it in water. Flowers can be affected by various pests, in such cases, the leaflets must be sprinkled with a special solution and the soil treated with pesticides.

In addition to creating beauty cyclamen is widely used in folk medicine for eye diseases, migraines, female diseases and purulent lesions. Usually, the juice of a plant that is extracted from tubers is used. They even treat sinusitis, colds, runny nose. The juice is diluted with ordinary water in a ratio of 1: 6.

Do not forget that this plant is very poisonous, so they need to be treated very carefully and under the supervision of a specialist.
