Persian Cyclamen: Growing and Care

Persian cyclamens are plants that live only three months. The rest of the time they are in a calm state. In total, sixty varieties of such flowers are known in nature, but only two survive at home: Persian and European. They delight the look of beautiful, bright buds of flowers in a dull, gray and cold season. The European species, on the contrary, rests in the winter, and the blossom begins in the summer.

Secrets

There is an opinion that the Persian cyclamen are quite a capricious kind of flowers. However, in fact, their cultivation does not require much effort - only those that are other indoor plants. It is enough to know a few secrets, and flowers will please the eye and decorate the windowsill. This species prefers that its tubers are not completely covered with earth, the third part of them feels better above the soil surface. Also, the plant likes to develop in small containers, because large pots can contribute to decay of tubers and poor flowering. It is better at a time when the Persian cyclamen bloom, provide them with sufficiently bright diffuse light, and after the plant has faded, put the pot back into a shady cool place. You should water it by lowering the pot into the water (to prevent water from getting on the rhizome, buds and leaves). With proper care and well-established conditions, the cyclamen will be pleased with her flowering every year. Persian cyclamens are very beautiful flowers, they are compact house plants with patterned leaves strewn with magnificent flowers, similar to moths of white, red, pink and crimson flowers, with leaves simple or covered with fringe. Each hostess tries to collect more varieties of such beauty at home.

Care

In nature, the cyclamen Persian (and European) usually blooms in autumn or spring. Domestic species also alternate periods of flowering. Many growers are looking for ways to preserve the tubers of a fallen asleep plant in such ways as placing it in absolutely dry ground or storing a pot with a flower in the fridge. However, tubers are rarely able to wake up after such procedures, especially young ones. It is advisable during the fall of the leaves (this is a sure sign that the plant has faded) simply to reduce the amount of water being watered and not to feed it. After some time, the plant will release the leaves again. The flower likes loose soil and sufficient drainage.

Reproduction

The difference between Persian and European species is that the first roots grow from the lower part, and the top should be visible above the ground, while in the second they develop over the entire surface of the tubers, so the root can be safely damped. The flower of the Persian cyclamen reproduces with the help of seeds and tubers. A method of reproduction by dividing the tuber is also possible, which rejuvenates the planting material. Tuber at the age of 3-4 years are divided with a knife, but every cut part must have a kidney to resume growth. It is very important to sprinkle the slices with charcoal for drying for a couple of days, and then put it in the ground and water it. Transplant them better in August, during the growing season. Pests cyclamens are not terrible, only with excessive dryness of the air can appear spider mites. The flower is best felt on the north and east windows. Direct rays of the sun contribute to the appearance on the leaves of burn marks. With proper care, the plant will delight its owners with original and beautiful flowers.
