general information

First we will understand what almond petals are. Purified from the brown skin of the almond kernel, cut into thin plates. In appearance they resemble petals or flakes. They can be eaten in salty or roasted form. But most often mistresses use "petals" of almonds to decorate baking and desserts (for example, ice cream, cakes, biscuits, cupcakes). It turns out a real culinary masterpiece.

How to make almond petals at home

We need:

  • 1 liter of water;
  • 50 g of whole almonds.

Detailed instructions:

Step number 1. Lay out on the table whole fruits of almonds. Each of them is split with the help of a heavy hammer. But do it carefully to avoid damage to the inner (white) part.

Step 2. We take the core in a brown skin. It is from them later we will make almond petals. The nuclei are placed in a glass bowl. Fill with cold water. The liquid must completely cover them. In this form, leave the almonds for 24 hours. Do not forget to periodically change the water. Such actions will relieve the kernel of bitterness and a yellowish hue.

Step No. 3. After a day, we clean the grain, using a universal knife for vegetables. Peel is removed easily and quickly. You just need to pick up the edge of the knife and pull it.

Step 4. Cleaned kernels are transferred to the cutting board. Another (sharp) knife cut them as thin as possible. If you get almost transparent and a little oblong petals, then we did everything right. For those who want to save time, we suggest cutting almond grains not along, but across.

Step 5. In the dry and cold frying pan, which has non-stick coating, we send "petals". Dry them with minimal fire. Be sure to stir. This will get rid of excess moisture. The process of drying almond flakes will take 5-7 minutes.

Step # 6: We shift the "petals" into a plate. You can decorate them with dessert or add to pastries, pre-chopped in a mortar. Many people throw away the shell of almond kernels, considering it useless. However, it can be used to impart a more saturated color to alcoholic beverages (liquor, cognac and so on).
