All about fauna: a complete list of equine animals

Odnophonous animals are mammals belonging to a placental order. Their distinctive feature is hooves, which form an odd number of fingers. The list of odd-toed animals includes various kinds of rhinoceroses, tapirs and horses. Representatives of wildlife are found only in scattered populations due to the reduction of living space and hunting for them.

General information

At all times, odd-toed animals have played a large role in human life, especially domesticated species. Donkeys and horses, to which the list of odd-toed animals are mostly represented, are found all over the world, including areas where they did not originally exist, for example, in Australia. Some of the detachment species serve as hunting objects, in some countries horses are used as riding animals.

Territorial location affects the way of life, the most active are the equine animals show up at night or twilight. Modern types of tapirs are loners, they inhabit forests, including tropical ones. The same way of life is led by rhinoceroses living in swampy Asian areas, as well as savannahs of Africa. Horses, on the contrary, always stay in groups. Habitat - steppes, savannahs, semi-deserts. All members of the squad are herbivores, they feed on parts of plants, including leaves and roots, as well as herbs.

A group of solitary animals: list

On various resources, you can find a lot of information about representatives of the placental unit. According to the Internet resource called "Species of the mammals of the world", three families, six genera, and seventeen species, one of which is extinct, are included in the list of ungulates. The family of horses includes:

  • Mountain zebras;
  • Horses;
  • Kulans;
  • Wild asses ;
  • Savannah zebras (the second name is the Burchell's zebra);
  • Kiang;
  • Domestic horses ;
  • Desert zebras, which are called zebra Grevi.

Another species of horse is the quagga (extinct species). Of great interest for scientists are tapirs - unusual, with a deep history, odd-toed animals. The list of tapirs is as follows:

  • Mountain tapirs;
  • Central American tapirs, called Baird;
  • Plain tapirs;
  • Caprice tapirs.

The rhinoceros family includes several species and genera. Representatives differ in appearance and environment. These are fairly large odd-breeded animals. The list (the photo of one of the representatives can be seen below) is compiled from the calculation of the division of each kind into types:

Rhinoceroses:

  • The rhinoceros are Javanese;
  • Indian rhinoceros;

White rhinoceroses:

  • The rhinoceros are white;

Sumatran rhinoceroses:

  • The rhinoceros are Sumatran;

Black rhinoceroses:

  • Rhinoceros are black.

The main types of domesticated horses

In the process of how a person was engaged in the domestication of horses, he tried to improve them. As a result, the list of equidigent animals was significantly enlarged. Among the most famous species are:

  • Heavy-duty;
  • Trotting;
  • Harness;
  • Riding.

The first is characterized by massiveness, developed musculature and a large head. These horses are Vladimir and Russian heavy-duty, Belgian brabanson, French percheron. Rysy horses are very fast and graceful odd-toed ungulates. The list consists of many breeds, but the most famous is the Oryol trotter.

Draft horses are considered to be among the strongest among all representatives, which differ in massiveness and medium growth. These are such breeds as the thorium, the Latvian, and also the Byelorussian. Horse breeds were man-made specially for riding. Their distinctive feature is long thin legs compared to horses of working breeds. Widely known among them: Ukrainian breed, Arabic, and also Akhal-Teke.

Common species of rhinos

Savannah and woodlands inhabit black and white rhinos, belonging to the African species. Their habitat is the Hindustan Peninsula, where there are open river banks and vast wet meadows. The Sumatran rhino lives on the island of Borneo by scattered populations, and Javanese remained only on the island of Java in the national park. These two species prefer, in contrast to the rest, marshes with thick vegetation, as well as wooded areas.

Varieties of zebras

All the existing species of zebras today live in Africa. These are beautiful nomadic monotonous animals (a list of animals with photos are presented above). The most massive species are savannah zebras, which can be found on terraces with grassy and shrubby vegetation.

In southern Africa, mountain and desert zebras live. The first inhabit the mountain plateaus, and the second, respectively, areas of deserts with a small amount of vegetation. Zebras gather in groups, never move one by one in search of grass. Sometimes there are herds in which there are more than one hundred individuals. The most large-scale movements are observed in savage zebras, and in some cases, they are combined with ostriches or antelopes.
