Aerator for the aquarium saves fish from suffocation

Aquarium without aeration jeopardizes the life and health of its inhabitants. The situation is complicated in the case when the number of small inhabitants is large. The aerator for the aquarium normalizes gas and heat exchange in the aquatic environment, increases the level of oxygen.

Oxygen in the aquarium

This is an important factor responsible for the normal life of living organisms. The oxygen content in the water depends on the number of inhabitants, the size of the tank, the temperature. Water plants play an important role in maintaining the gas regime. A large aquarium with numerous plants and a small number of fish is able to provide itself with oxygen as a result of photosynthesis. But to neglect aeration and in this case it is not necessary. In a small reservoir there are no natural mechanisms of regulation, as in nature, therefore it is necessary to maintain the gas balance artificially.

The aerator runs the air through the water. The gas is broken up in a nebulizer into small bubbles that give off oxygen upon contact with the liquid. The process activity depends on the compressor and can be adjusted.

Problems and methods of aeration

Enrichment of the aqueous medium with oxygen is carried out in the following ways:

  • Water filter with diffuser. The pump drives through it the water into which the air enters. The resulting mixture enters the aquarium.
  • Compressor. Through the tube through the atomizer, air is pumped to the bottom of the tank.

The aerator for the aquarium serves to mix the water layers. A sprayer located next to the heater will distribute heat evenly by creating circular flows of air bubbles. A large aquarium gets oxygen through the surface. As a result, the upper layers have a greater concentration of oxygen than the deep ones. Air bubbles from the atomizer cause water to move from the bottom to the surface, reducing this difference. The aerator for the aquarium is placed above the water level so that when it is turned off, the water does not leak out of the tank. Solve the problem by installing a check valve.

Compressor noise

The main disadvantage of membrane units is the increased noise level that the aerator produces. The price of the compressor varies greatly: from 200 to 1000 rubles and above. Cheap models are the loudest. They do not contain any sound-absorbing technology. Famous European brands supply their devices with shock absorbers and sound-absorbing bodies. This allows you to significantly reduce the noise level.

You can solve the problem of a noisy compressor in many ways:

  1. Transfer the aerator to the storeroom or mezzanine, where it will not be heard. From him stretch a long air duct under the skirting board. If necessary, replace the aerator with a more powerful one.
  2. Put it on a piece of foam rubber.
  3. Connect through a transformer that reduces the voltage. Together with the noise level, the performance will also decrease.
  4. Disassemble the unit and clean the air filter, the contamination of which increases noise during operation.

An aerator for battery-powered aquariums will save the inhabitants of the reservoir on the road or with frequent power outages. They have enough battery life and performance.

What affects the concentration of oxygen?

There are several factors that can significantly change the characteristics of the gaseous substance:

  • Temperature. Heating the water leads to a decrease in the concentration of oxygen. High temperature stimulates metabolism and gas exchange in the inhabitants. Intensive aeration of water in the aquarium is able to solve this problem.
  • Underwater plants. Their ability to oxygenate the water is known to many. But do not forget that at night they themselves need this gas. In the dark there is a fierce struggle for oxygen between all living things in the aquarium. Solve the problem by turning on the aerator at night.
  • Snails and bacteria. All living beings, as a result of vital activity, consume oxygen, leaving behind a lot of organic matter. Its decomposition intensifies the deficit of valuable gas in the water. To control the number of aerobic microorganisms do not allow the subsidence of surplus food to the bottom and excessive reproduction of snails.

The intensity of the oxygen saturation of the aqueous medium depends on the size of the air bubbles. The shallow give more water to the water. Wood sprays are used for these purposes: it is better that they be made of lime. They give a uniform flow of the smallest bubbles. Every 2 months, the lime sprayers are changed due to clogging of the pores.
