Wooden products with their own hands. Wood products

At present, with a high development of industry, it is practically impossible to find an object or product that can not be bought. Of course, the received item will fully meet the highest requirements, but it will lose a special individuality and uniqueness, which can be presented by wooden products made with their own hands.

Stages and tools for work

Determine what may be needed to make wooden products handmade. The most important thing is the material from which the work will be done. All logs are prepared in a special way, for this they are dried to 15% moisture, but experts say that the best option is 8-9%. It is important not to forget that wood differs in its strength and structure, depending on the species.

To process the product you will need a mounting table or workbench. Further, an electric tool is always purchased - a router, a circular saw and a grinding machine, as well as dolly and locomotive.

Useful and hand tools, which include all kinds of planes, chisels, hacksaws-awards. In order to apply a drawing to the product, you can acquire drills and engravers.

Also, drawings of wooden products are needed in order to understand what will be a finished object. It is advisable to independently develop sketches or to borrow them from more experienced masters.

Connection of products on sliding grooves

This is one of the simplest and most common types of bonding, so it is recommended for beginners. You will need to cut the same straight lines, the width of which will be the same as the thickness of the workpiece, then insert these parts into each other.

Prepare two pieces of plywood or wood in the form of a rectangle. In the middle of the propilite grooves, the length of which is equal to half the workpiece. The width of this fastener should be the same as the width of the part. The result is a strong and stable cross. If the grooves are cut in the corners, it will be possible to create a corner solid figure. You can thus assemble four blanks and get an excellent frame for the box or a rectangular shape for the craft. This connection is also perfect for creating round things, for example, a mill or a turbine wheel; Making souvenirs and children's toys; Production of furniture.

Stages of polishing wood

- Primer. It is performed with a tampon wrapped in fine cloth and impregnated with lacquer, which is applied to the product in different directions and impregnates it. This procedure is done in order to fill the smallest pores and cracks on the base of the tree. After drying, the surface is treated with fine-grained emery paper, and then the coating is again applied in two layers one by one. After drying, it is necessary to treat the product with the composition for the last time, diluting it one to one with polish. The prepared item for two days is in a closed cabinet.

- Disposition. To do this, polish is used, before work with which the tampon is wetted with a small amount of vegetable oil. It is brought from the side, and the composition is distributed in smooth circular motions. All processes are performed in three stages, and after each application, the surface is ground with fine sandpaper, then it is cleaned of dust. If everything is done correctly, then after the last layer has dried, a small gloss will appear.

- Polishing. It is carried out for the surface to acquire a mirror shine. After all the layers are well dried after the spacing, the base is treated with the finest sandpaper, which is pre-wetted in oil. Then a small amount of varnish is applied to the tampon, and the surface is rubbed with the composition until the gloss appears. In order to improve the strength characteristics of the product from wood, this procedure is repeated several times. At the last stage, the surface is wiped with a soft cloth impregnated with water.

The effect of an aged tree

In order for wooden products created by themselves to become exclusive, the aging effect is used, which can be obtained in three ways.

The chemical method is suitable only for hardwoods, as they have tannins in their composition. To do this, the surface must be covered with ammonia, after which it will darken and acquire a characteristic gray shade.

Using the thermal method, it is possible to grow old products from wood of any kind. Initially, the surface is treated with stain, and after being scorched by a soldering iron until a natural textural pattern appears on it. Then, the carbon deposit is removed with a brush. Everything is varnished.

The mechanical method (it is often called brushing) is best suited for coniferous species. For this method, you need a metal brush, which needs to cut through the fibers of the tree - remove the soft layers, after which solid fibers will appear, which will give the material an aged look. With this procedure, you can hide the small defects that appear during the work. At the last stage everything is covered with varnish or paint.

Final processing technology

Wooden products, created by oneself, after production are covered with paint. Due to this they will be especially beautiful and practical. This is done with a tampon or a soft brush. Small surfaces, as well as wooden carvings, are best painted with watercolor fine brushes.

Before use, the stain is slightly diluted, after which it is easily applied in several layers, the number of which will depend on the desired color. Since all parts of the wood absorb the paint in different ways, it is impossible to cover the product in one step. After each step, the parts must be completely dried, then you need to walk a little on the surface with sandpaper, remove the dust and apply the next layer.

Care

In order for wooden products created with their own hands to look beautiful, special care is needed for them. Steam and moisture easily penetrate inside, but just as easily evaporate. To protect the coating, it is best to use decorative wax. Humidity can not harm products that are coated with such a composition. It is applied with the help of a brush in several stages. This layer will be an excellent protection against minor mechanical damage. To apply, you need a tissue swab, with which wax is rubbed with wide movements in the direction of the texture of the tree. For drying, it is necessary to stand the product one night at a temperature of + 20 ° C.
