Windows 10: Remote Desktop Connection, Remote Access Configuration

Probably, many users, if not encountered in practice, at least, heard about such a concept as "remote desktop". True, most inexperienced users vaguely imagine what it is, and do not know how to connect to the desktop of a remote terminal. Let's try to fill this gap.

Remote Desktop: what's this?

Let's start, perhaps, with the definition itself. On Windows systems, this function is called Remote Desktop Protocol. Roughly speaking, this is a special protocol, which allows you to connect to a remote desktop in Windows 10 (this applies equally to the G8). In addition, it should be noted that after the connection is established, access to the home terminal can be carried out not only through a remote PC, but also from a tablet or smartphone.

By using this function, you can access virtually all parameters of a remote computer. True, in the G8 and the Top 10, the use of the built-in module has some limitations regarding the impossibility of connecting, for example, logical partitions or USB-drives, as well as editing the information on them. However, this is mostly due to the so-called Modern-application.

Windows 10: Remote Desktop Connection. What to use?

In principle, for all Windows systems today you can find a huge number of specialized utilities of varying degrees of complexity and the availability of specific functions.

But why install additional programs if the Windows 10 operating system can connect to the remote desktop via its own built-in RDP client. Moreover, its tuning in most cases is much simpler than if it were done with the help of third-party software packages.

But even here it is worth noting that a full-featured "native" client is available only in the professional version (Pro). If you install something like Home, the user will just encounter the above limitations in the work. By the way, today most of the computers sold or laptops with a preinstalled system, unfortunately, have a Home-version. However, setting up Windows 10 allows you to update in online mode to a professional version. Nothing particularly complicated in this.

Remote connection to the computer (Windows 10) via the built-in RDP client

So, what should I do first to provide a remote connection to my terminal?

First, go to the "System" section. The easiest way to do this is to use the combination of Win + Pause or "Computer Properties" when you right-click the menu. Here on the left there is a special section of the remote access settings.

We enter the section and mark all the fields related to granting permissions for remote connection, and use the user selection button. Do not forget to disable the automatic transition to sleep mode (power section).

In the new window, click on the icon to add a user, and in the corresponding field enter your "account", if there is no such entry in the access list, or we add a new user and enter the corresponding data.

To confirm the changes made, use the "OK" button, after which the IP address will be scanned. When the process is completed, the connection to the remote desktop will be completed in Windows 10 without any problems.

Note: in order to not scan computer addresses, you can use the ipconfig / all command in the "Run" menu, and then enter the correct address when you enter, if you intend to connect remotely to several terminals.

Login to the system

After all the above actions are performed, a window will appear on the screen at the very bottom indicating the IP address received. Now you need to log in.

Typically, this is either a Microsoft account with an email address and password, or a computer name and password if the input is done locally. A little lower there is a line for remembering the parameters of the input, in front of which you should put the "bird".

After that, the system will issue a warning that it could not verify the remote terminal. Nothing wrong with that. Ignore this message, mark the "Do not ask anymore" box and click the "I'm still connected" button. Now "Remote Desktop" appears on the screen, and the current IP is shown on top.

Modifying the settings of a remote computer

With the connection, I think the situation has cleared up a bit. Let's turn to the possibility of changing the parameters of the remote terminal.

In principle, there are not so many opportunities in the "top ten", nevertheless you can easily adjust the remote PC for you: for example, to use sound schemes, change the screen parameters, etc. It is done from the menu at the top where the section is selected Parameters, and then the connection settings (parameters), but already on the right.

There are several sliders here that allow you to enable or disable the use of the printer, microphone, clipboard, and so on. In the meantime, one more question about working with Windows 10: "Where is the remote desktop?" The settings on the left will show all recent connections in the form of thumbnails of recently visited desktops with the IP addresses of the computers to which they belong.

Using multiple accounts

However, you can also view the desktops when the account is changed. As for the entrance under another "accounting", then here everything is simple.

First, you exit to the initial application window, then select the account change, then in the corresponding settings window you just need to delete it. Now you can use a new connection with a different account. Further, as usual, you enter the information necessary for logging in (login and password) and log in to the system.

Again, you can again configure all the necessary settings, making it more convenient to work in Windows 10: Russian (meaning adding a language), sound options, enabling tools for using the same smart cards, and much more. Here, every user chooses exactly what he needs.

Of course, there are not so many features that Windows 10 setup offers, as we would like, nevertheless sometimes they can come in handy. If you want to use some specific parameters and settings, it's better to install professional utilities.

Conclusion

As you can see, in Windows 10 the connection to the remote desktop is quite simple, and for this you do not need to have special skills and knowledge on the system part of the computer.

In principle, it is easiest for most users of the initial and intermediate level to use the built-in RDP client, however, as practice shows, such a tool looks, to put it mildly, somewhat primitive for complete control over the management of remote terminals. However, this is a separate topic, especially since such software packages for an unprepared user can be very difficult in terms of fine-tuning, and without special knowledge to execute them will not be so easy.
