How to disable autorun on the system and whether you need to do this

In connection with the penetration of the Internet in all areas of our lives, more attention has to be paid to protecting the computer. And it concerns not only installation of anti-virus programs, but also other methods of ensuring security. Practice shows that the cause of infection of machines for inexperienced users is usually a banal autoplay.

Thus, most experts strongly recommend disabling autorun on each of their home PCs, as otherwise various troubles are not ruled out. It is especially useful to do this when you regularly use flash drives that come from different sources. They are the cause of every second infection. Unfortunately, there are a lot of malicious programs that use this path of integration into the system. Not all antivirus applications can completely prevent this phenomenon.

But how can I disable autorun on my computer? Perhaps it is too difficult for a beginner? In fact, nothing complicated in this. The easiest and quickest way to disable automatic start from removable media is as follows: go to the Start menu, search for "Control Panel" in which we are looking for the item "Autostart". In it, you must uncheck the "Enable autorun for all devices" check box. So you can turn off the autorun XP, as well as other Windows operating systems. However, this method can not be called too reliable.

Where the more correct method of disabling automatic startup is the use of group policies. To do this, click on the "Start" button, find the "Run" line there and enter the command "gpedit.msc". If you do not have such a line, you need to simultaneously press the Windows button (this is the button with the Windows logo) and the R key (the keyboard layout does not matter). The same "Run" window will appear, into which the team is hammered.

The Group Policy dialog box appears, which we will use to disable autorun. We select the "Local computer" policy, in the opened list we find "Computer configuration", open the sub-item "Administrative templates", in which the "System" item should be displayed. Is not it true that the path resembles the tale of the death of Koshchei? However, we are distracted. In the system tab on the right side of the dialog box, a long list appears, in which you must find the desired item to disable automatic launch.

We click on the item "Disable autostart" twice, select the option "Enabled", and then in the drop-down list below we look for the function to disable it on all removable media. Click on the OK button. All! Your computer is securely protected from pest penetration through removable drives.

However, we must immediately say that newcomers should not go too far to remote XP politicians. Disabling autorun is not difficult, but if you get carried away in your research, it is possible to deactivate the necessary functions, which in most cases leads to the impossibility of installing programs and games from physical media.
