What sewer hatches are there?

Sewer hatches are usually installed above the manholes. This structure gives access to underground communications: sewage, storm, cable or pipeline. Its main functions are: protection of the well and drainage from damage and ensuring the safety of pedestrians and motorists.

The covers of the sewer hatch serve as a barrier against rainfall and protect against penetration into the well of strangers. Typically, hatches sewer weigh more than 50 kg, so they were difficult to move. As a rule, the caps have a round shape, but you can meet square, rectangular and oval.

The round cover covering the sewer hatches is convenient in that it does not turn and therefore will not fall into the well. In addition, when it is manufactured, less material is consumed, and production technology is simpler. There is a hole on the lid. It controls the gas mixture inside the well (determines the permissible limits). With its help it is easier to open sewer hatches using a hook with a copper tip.

On the surface of the cover, convex patterns are usually made to prevent the accumulation and freezing of water. The image on them is different: from the notation, talking about what communications are there, to all sorts of drawings. If desired, you can order covers, which will be depicted a certain pattern, ornament or family coat of arms. Observing precaution, concave hatches do not produce.

Several materials are used to make covers. Manhole sewer hatches are the most common and most commonly used on an industrial scale. But you can find plastic, polymer, rubber and concrete hatches. But cast iron remains the main material for their production. Cast-iron hatches are characterized by reliability, durability and resistance to environmental influences. Recently, they have become a popular target of embezzlement (profitable to take for scrap metal). The cost of one such cover can be from 50 to 200 dollars, and leaving hatches open is dangerous, so they are looking for an alternative.

There was a noticeable tendency to increase demand for plastic covers. They are durable, environmentally friendly and of low cost. Use them in the areas of green spaces, on footpaths and sidewalks. Their main drawback is low strength, so they are not installed on roads.

The absence of a cover on the sewer hatch can lead to negative consequences. Curious adolescents and scattered passers-by may not notice the open hatch and fall. There is a possibility that a person can fall into the well without having grabbed the support, as a result, get injured (fracture, bruise). Therefore, if someone meets an open hatch, try to prevent such consequences. In its opening, you can shove a large branch, at least. She will be noticed and circumvented. All sewer hatches without a cover should be fenced and as soon as possible closed.
