What kind of work do corpse worms perform in nature?
Despite the fact that the basis of everything and everything on our planet is life, hand in hand with her is death. It's sad, but any form of life on the planet sooner or later meets with it.
Nature is very wise, and therefore in advance took care of the timely destruction of obsolete organic. And help her in this cadaver worms. Whatever emotions they cause us, we have to admit that they play an extremely important role in nature. Let's look at this in more detail.
So, suppose that an animal died in the forest. What happens to a corpse if it is not detected in time by large scavengers? Of course, the first flies fly to such a tasty morsel. And at first ordinary house and blue meat flies arrive . A little later, when the first corpse stains begin to appear on the corpse, representatives of the gray sarcophagus and lucilia appear on it. Their larvae are known to us as cadaveric worms.
What is their role? First of all, the larvae of flies begin to eat dead organic matter, liquefying (lysing) it. So they make it more accessible to other saprophytes. As studies by some natural scientists show, large enough corpses of animals and even human larvae of flies can completely destroy in just a couple of weeks.
Of course, this only happens in artificially created conditions, since in the natural environment many organisms participate in the destruction of dead organics, among which an important role belongs to insects.
By the way, it is not necessary to think that insect larvae are the only guests at this feast. On the contrary, real dramas are played out on the perishable body! So, by the time of the development of a large number of worms on the body, so-called beetles (Haster) appear on it. They feed on ... no, not by the corpse, but just by the larvae of flies that live on it!
This creates a balance between the number of larvae and the number of adult insects that can occur from them. If it were not for this natural regulation, each fly larva could develop up to the adult stage. Can you imagine, what would be the number of cadaverous flies then in nature?
After the above creatures have worked on the dead body, practically all the rotten flesh disappears and the corpse begins to dry out. At this time on it appear beetles-kozheedy. They stretch to dry places and contribute to the destruction of dried pieces of skin and cartilage. As a result of their activity, the skeleton breaks up into separate bones.
However, if the body is located in a damp and poorly ventilated place, the kozheedy will not appear on it. In these conditions, the already mentioned cadaver worms, which in this case will not have any competitors, will destroy all flesh. However, it is worth mentioning that lichens and molds play an important role in moist and warm rooms.
Thus, in the world around us, the eternal cycle of matter takes place, which constitutes an important part of the existence of life on our planet. And extremely unpleasant to us cadaver worms play a crucial role in this process: destroying dead organic matter, they do not allow spreading to diseases and epidemics.
