Who are the Celts?
Celts - a people who inhabited the territory of Northern Europe in 500-250 gg. BC, namely, the territory of Ireland, Scotland, Wales and part of Northern France. Unfortunately, there are very few monuments of Celtic culture today, and those that are are scattered around the places of their former habitat. These include the famous crosses of the original form and various jewelry from gold and silver, each of the finds is decorated with a unique ornament, the variations of which are known to us as Celtic patterns. These intricate intricacies of lines, forming a single picture, were a reflection of the person's life path, all the trials and events that fate will bring to him. The Celts did not believe in the finiteness of life, they believed that a person endlessly passes through a series of deaths and births. These beliefs have found mappings in ornamental culture, because any Celtic patterns do not have a beginning or an end.
A huge number of types of ornamentation amazes, and each of them is unique and has its own semantic load, impregnated only to it by its inherent magical power. One of the favorite symbols is a labyrinth, all the threads of which are directed towards the center. Means this spiritual aspiration of the person to the higher beginning. The aforementioned Celtic cross has a circle in its center, which denotes the unity and interconnection of Heaven and Earth, and the expanding ends symbolize the striving of man and his consciousness for perfection. The three spirals that form the triangle in the center are Triskel, the sign of the unity of the three main elements: Air, Water and Fire. It also symbolizes joy and well-being. Very often in the intricacies of threads that form Celtic patterns, one can find images of birds and animals, each of which has its own significance. For example, a heron represents vigilance, a partridge is a cunning, but a dove is love and spiritual development. Snakes occupy a special place in the Celtic culture, they had the value of wisdom and healing powers, and also were the keepers of the secret knowledge bestowed upon them by the gods. The sacred among the Celts was a hare, which was also a symbol of good life, immortality and deceit, in the footsteps of this animal the Celts predicted their fate. Almost every animal has its own reflection in the patterns of this glorious people, even the fish were not ignored: they became a symbol of prophecy.
Despite the relative antiquity, the Celtic patterns look modern due to the abstract and graphic. This feature makes them popular all over the world, but, naturally, the descendants of these tribes are particularly sensitive to their heritage. Now these symbols are used to decorate jewelry, for edging pages. However, most people prefer to make tattoos based on Celtic patterns. Sketches of such tattoos can be found in any salon and choose the right one, but it is worth noting that each of the ornaments carries a powerful semantic load.
