What is EXPO: all the most interesting about the exhibition. EXPO-2017 in Astana

More than 150 years ago, the developed countries of the world gathered for the first time to demonstrate their own successes and developments, as well as to see what others are working on. What is EXPO and who was the founder of the exhibition? These and other questions concerning such an important event we will discuss in more detail.

What is EXPO?

EXPO - World Exhibition. The main task is to demonstrate the latest achievements and developments in the field of industrialization. Each state considers it an honor to organize and conduct this large-scale event for millions of guests from different countries.

Modern EXPO gives an opportunity to present to the public significant achievements of the state in various spheres of human activity. Decision to participate in the exhibition of a particular country is taken at the state level. For the venue of the EXPO there is always a tense struggle, which reminds the competition of countries for holding the Olympics.

A bit of history: the first exhibition of EXPO

Britain became the leading industrial country during the reign of Queen Victoria (1827-1901). Her husband, Prince Albert, wanted to glorify his country, show the whole world the greatness of Britain and its success in industry, for this he decided to hold a world exhibition. In those days, such an event became the largest in history - it was called the Great Exhibition, and today it is known under the acronym EXPO.

The opening of the event took place on May 1 in 1851. The venue was chosen Hyde Park in London. For this event, the Crystal Palace was specially erected, which consisted entirely of cast iron and glass. At the exhibition there were exhibits demonstrating the achievements of the states: a steam engine of enormous size, all kinds of machines, samples of silk, original sculptures, etc.

The exhibition EXPO has become a source of solid revenues. That year, her guests were more than 6 million people. The exhibition was forbidden to smoke, the organizers installed public toilets on the territory. After the exhibition the building of the Crystal Palace was dismantled and erected again, but already in the southern part of London. However, the monumental building could not survive the fire in 1936.

Exhibits that have made their countries famous

As stated earlier, the symbol of Great Britain became the London Crystal Palace. In 1889, EXPO took place in France - this event was erected Eiffel Tower, which is still the symbol of Paris. After the exhibition, it had to be dismantled, but it gained so much popularity among tourists that it collected in a short time the amount that paid off all the costs. In the first six months, it was visited by at least 2 million people. Today millions of tourists come to see it.

In 1929, the relay took over Spain - the symbol of this large-scale event was the Plaza of Spain in Seville. This architectural ensemble is the visiting card of the country, annually it is visited by a large number of tourists.

After 29 years at the Expo, a new architecture miracle was presented, located in Brussels. The amazing Atomimum became a symbol of the atomic age. Architect Arne Waterkane designed a model of the iron atom, which was increased 160 billion times. In the upper bowl there is a restaurant and an observation deck, which offers beautiful views of the city. Other pavilions of EXPO, and there are five more, accommodate exhibition halls, always ready to surprise tourists.

What is the EXPO, the residents of Canada know very well. The well-known residential complex "Habitat 67" was presented to the general review in 1967. This masterpiece of engineering art is similar to a blockage of children's cubes. In reality, this is 354 cubes, which are connected in a unique way. There are 147 apartments in the house.

Since then, no other object has been able to become a world-famous symbol of its state.

EXPO at VDNKh

VDNKH EXPO is an important subdivision of the main exhibition of Russia. Its main task is to supervise congress and exhibition activities.

Annually more than 70 countries take part in the event, more than 100 expositions and about 25 000 exhibits are exhibited. All projects are aimed at demonstrating the latest achievements in the field of health, housing and communal services, agriculture, etc.

Expo 2017

The venue of the exhibition is determined by voting of countries that are members of the International Exhibition Bureau. In 2017 such an honor fell to Kazakhstan. At the final stage of voting, Astana won the majority (103 of 161), leaving its main rival - the city of Liège (Belgium) - behind.

This year the exhibition is planned to be held under the slogan "Energy of the future". It will highlight one of the most important issues of the XXI century - alternative energy sources.

From July to September, Kazakhstan will host more than 100 countries and dozens of organizations of international level. This year will demonstrate the achievements and possible prospects for development in the field of renewable energy sources, the main advantages of which should be cleanliness of the environment and low cost.

What is EXPO for Kazakhstan? This is a huge leap forward towards the establishment of the country as an international platform for exhibitions. Never before has an event of this scale been held in the CIS.
