What is an ISP

It is quite difficult to imagine a modern computer without having access to the global Internet. Even inexpensive tablets from Chinese manufacturers allow you to connect wireless modems for 3G networks and are equipped with an Ethernet connector.

That's only for a beginner, who yesterday bought a computer and does not know what a provider is, connection to the Internet presents a whole problem. This is completely normal, everything happens for the first time, and even the conceited computer engineer once timidly wrote down on the piece of paper the necessary terms and actions. The difficulty is that it's not always obvious where to go and what to do to connect Internet services. In the technical and grocery supermarkets on the shelves, there is no product with the name "Internet". But thanks to the developed media system, everyone at least once, but heard the word "provider". This is exactly what you need! What is an ISP? In fact, everything is quite simple. A provider is a company or an individual who provides a number of services related to the Internet for a fee.

However, one can not consider everything one-sided, because there are features, and the question of what a provider is, presupposes several answers at once. Depending on the specifics of the services provided, these companies are divided into the following areas:

- providing access to the global network ;

- placing on their sites network resources of the customer.

Large companies that own the main channels of communication with the global network tend to sell smaller part of their free network traffic to smaller organizations, and those in turn distribute it to end users. Here is a hierarchy. Therefore, one can not unequivocally know what a provider is. Everything determines the specifics.

In the cities among providers there is a constant struggle for the subscriber: the tariffs are reduced, then free access to the local server is provided, then various actions are held. In such circumstances, simple network users can only decide which Internet is better to connect.

In high-rise buildings, their services are usually offered by several companies. For a wise choice, first of all, you should familiarize yourself with the tariff plans of each provider and choose the most suitable one. Someone needs unlimited access, and someone connects the Internet only to check e-mail and it will be arranged with a non-banking payment. After choosing, you need to know the feedback of people who use the services of this provider. You need to ask both in the real world, and on forums. If it turns out that the shortcomings exceed the merits, then we choose another service provider.

If the connection is through wire lines, and the conditions are approximately equal, then preference should be given to companies with optical communication channels, rather than the usual copper wires.

Many providers provide time for free use of the Internet, which allows you to assess the quality, speed and reliability. Ignore this proposal should not: it is better to see once.

Large providers are more preferable than small offices and, especially, a private person (there is such). The reason is obvious: with the slightest problems with communication, the subscriber is provided with operational support for all the issues that arise. In addition, you can not worry that in a month or two the provider-one-day will disappear without a trace.

Everything is much more difficult when you connect to the wireless Internet. Not distributed through Wi-Fi equipment, but working through the stations of mobile operators GSM and CDMA. Expect the maximum theoretical speed and inexpensive unlimited tariff plans should not be - the privileges of wired networks. The main thing in them is the coverage area, the wider it is, the better.
