Warming of the floor on the loggia with extruded polystyrene foam

Loggia is often used as an additional area, allowing, although not much, but still expand, and on legal grounds. Most likely, she will want to use in winter.

The need to install modern glass units on the balcony is not in anyone's doubt. And if it's better to entrust specialists, then the floor can be insulated on the loggia yourself.

But before you need to determine the finish coat, as the choice of construction technology is directly related to it: for linoleum or floor tiles you will need a cement screed, for a laminate or a processed floorboard, the flooring of the loggia is possible on the rough floors.

Whatever option is chosen, first carefully remove the old coatings, carefully inspect the base plate. It should be tapped, and when it finds holes and cracks, clear voids, they are cleared and sealed with a solution.

Defects of a sufficiently large size are recommended to be fixed with additional reinforcement. For this, the Bulgarian first cuts the transverse notches, which are not very deep, and the metal reinforcement is laid there. The holes are then poured with a solution. Any iron scraps that fit into the grooves will do.

Floors, having misalignments and significant irregularities, are leveled by a preliminary screed. After they are completely dry, they are primed to avoid the formation of mold and dampness.

Warming of the floor on the loggia can be carried out by a wide variety of materials: expanded clay, polystyrene, glass wool, but the best insulation for the balcony is extruded polystyrene foam. It can be cut to any size, and the material does not crumble. The extruded polystyrene foam has excellent qualities for insulation, and under the influence of temperatures it practically does not change its dimensions. For this reason, it does not undergo destruction and, accordingly, has a long service life.

It is light, but at the same time capable of withstanding high loads. In addition, it is water and fire resistant, and this is not all of its dignity. Of course, and it is slightly higher than, say, traditional foam.

You can choose any insulation, but that it is tight and well held and not moved, formwork (logs) is performed. The construction is closed on top with a hard surface, since the screed does not fit into loose and soft materials. Styrofoam and in this case stands out for its properties - for it a similar construction is not needed, as well as hydro- and vapor barrier, because this material does not absorb moisture at all.

Warming of the floor on the loggia with the help of extruded polystyrene foam gives excellent results, and this method is quite simple. On the slab and the surface of the floor is applied a special glue (it should be diluted strictly according to the instructions). The weight is applied around the perimeter of the sheet using a notched trowel.

Sheets of expanded polystyrene can be fastened with dowels in the form of a mushroom. Plastic dowels with a specially increased head and nails fix the whole plate in the corners and in the middle. Some use both methods for efficiency simultaneously.

Sheets, cut with an ordinary hacksaw, are staggered. To seal the joints a mounting foam is used, which should not contain toluene - it destroys the extruded polystyrene foam.

Additional insulation of the floor on the loggia creates foamed foil polyethylene laid on top of it , with a layer of 3-10 mm. Fasten it by butt with glue and glue the seams with foil tape.

Thus, the result is a room that resembles a thermos inside, completely isolated from the cold outside.
