Virus Engine.exe: how to remove the threat entirely?

Quite often, users are faced with one of the most interesting and non-standard threats called Engine.exe. How to remove it, now we'll see, but at the same time we will determine what kind of thing it is, how it affects the system.

What is the Engine.exe virus?

In general, the virus itself is the so-called miner. In terms of behavior, it is very specific. This program, penetrating the system, begins to actively use its resources, producing a huge number of mathematical operations. The results of calculations, of course, are sent to its creators.

Roughly speaking, intruders use extraneous computers to perform some tasks without loading their own. The consequence of this activity is an unreasonably high load on the CPU and RAM. What is most sad, the virus can duplicate itself. It is not surprising that in the "Task Manager" the user watches sometimes up to one and a half dozen of the same processes.

How does the virus get into the system?

The question of how to uninstall the Engine.exe program for the time being is left aside, but first let's see how this threat penetrates the system. An example is the simplest. Let's say a user has a permanent or temporary connection to the Internet. He wants to install the game you like on the computer, but not from the official distribution, but from the downloaded on the Internet or some collected package.

In this case we are talking about the fact that installation recommendations contain a mandatory condition for disabling the antivirus, they say, without this the game will not be installed correctly. Naive users disable the scanner and firewall, as a result of which and "catch" this infection.

Symptoms of infection

It should be noted right away that the virus manifests itself not only as an Engine.exe process in the "Device Manager". It is still present as a file on the hard disk. However, do not confuse the virus file with the startup file of some games. If someone paid attention, the main "executable" sometimes also has the name Engine. In the folder with the officially installed game, the virus can not be located.

The first signs of infection are excessive load on the processor, in some cases reaching 70-100%, and almost full load of "RAM". In this case, the system's own processes either start very slowly, or they do not start at all.

In addition to slowing down the computer, the consumption of traffic increases noticeably. Well, if the connection is prepaid. And if payment directly depends on incoming and outgoing traffic? This is a serious material costs. As a result of all these actions, failures occur, which the system immediately issues a notification. How to remove the Engine.exe error and the virus itself, now and see. It is not difficult to do this, but still have patience.

Virus Engine.exe: how to delete the search file?

So, let's say the engine Engine.exe has settled in the computer. How to remove it in the simplest way? Very simple. First, we call the Task Manager with the taskmgr command in the Run menu (Win + R) or any other convenient way, and right click on the Engine.exe process.

In the drop-down context menu, select the property line, then on the "General" tab, look at the location of the file (of course, remember the path).

Then you can see the startup by using the msconfig command and the corresponding tab. In most cases, there will not be such a process, but still it is worthwhile to be convinced of its absence. If it is there, you just need to uncheck the automatic start line.

Then restart the computer system in safe mode. This is usually done using the F8 key at the download stage. In the "top ten" this mode is started a little differently, but now it's not about that. When the system is fully booted, we re-enter the "Task Manager" and try to complete all processes named Engine.exe (sometimes it can be done, sometimes it does not).

Now in "Explorer" we find the desired file on the path computed earlier. As a rule, it is located in the Roaming folder of the AppData directory, which is in the volume with the user name, and in subfolders like X9, X10, X11, X13, etc. At this stage, first delete the file itself, as well as an object called cppredistx86. Exe, and then the entire folder (folder) with the virus. The AppData folder is hidden, so first you need to display it by making the appropriate settings in the "View Menu".

How to remove Engine.exe (the virus leaves entries in the registry)?

The next and most important step. At this point, you need to enter the Registry Editor (the regedit command in the Run menu), because the object there also creates keys that are different from Engine.exe. How to remove the virus in this case? This is done by entering the HKLU section, where you need to move down the folder tree to the Run directory.

On the right (in the next window) we find all records containing something like Microsoft Visual C ++, and delete the keys, as they say, without a twinge of conscience. In fact, this is not a real package from Microsoft, but a camouflage service, which is responsible for launching the virus.

Actions after removal

So, we figured out what Engine.exe is. How to remove a virus is also understandable. Finally a few words about what it is desirable to do after a complete removal. First of all, you should reboot the system in normal mode and see if there is activity that was noticed earlier. The matter is that in some cases the virus can be in other folders, and in a tree of the started processes - even to have other name.

But suppose that the virus was completely removed completely. Now it remains to run some powerful antivirus module and test the system using the advanced scan mode. Of course, this can take a lot of time, but, as they say, it's better not to take risks. By the way, SMART scanning is better not to use, because the threat located on the computer may not be defined. This mode is used mainly for startup items and system components (services and processes necessary for the correct operation of the "operating system").
