Since the day when the first Samara cars left the production line of the Volga Automobile Plant, many years have passed. These machines differed significantly from the previous VAZ model line: they had a style, smooth lines, front-wheel drive, improved dynamic performance. In addition, these were the first hatchbacks produced by Volga designers. Naturally, cars among citizens were very popular, and this popularity was due to the fact that after many years it was decided to do a deep restyling of the once beloved model. So one of the modifications of the ninth model - VAZ-21140 - was born.
In the series production of the updated five-door hatchback was in 2003, it will last, by the way, exactly 10 years. The restyling model aroused considerable interest among the public - the instrument panel is now made in the European version, the steering column is adjustable in two directions, the electric windows have become electric, the model has received a new heater and a more modern design. As for the VAZ-21140 engine, the technical characteristics of the new powerplant assume 8 valves and a system of distributed fuel injection. For the protection of the driver and passengers of the car meet: safe glazing, ABS and seat belts. The exterior in general is reminiscent of the lines and curves of the very "nine", the changes have mostly affected the spoiler, bumpers and lighting equipment. A little later the hatchback begins to be equipped with a new 1.6-liter power unit, which meets all Euro-3 toxicity standards. This model just got the VAZ-21140 index. The catalyst in the new version is located near the engine, and immediately the motor itself was now clothed in decorative plastic. In the interior, designers found it necessary to replace the dashboard, add an on-board computer, and generally apply a more rigid material for the torpedo. The modification of the VAZ-21140 is equipped with 14-inch wheels. The car folds the rear seatback, which makes it possible to carry long loads.
In 2008, the minimal changes that VAZ-21140 touched - the tuning of moldings. They did not change anything anymore, and a year later the modernization of the car was completely over. Hatchback finally got hold of a new sixteen-valve injector motor (1.6 hp, 89 hp), changes have touched and other units. In particular, the designers finalized the 5-speed gearbox, installed a new reinforced clutch and front ventilated brakes. As a result, the VAZ-21140 boasts a higher dynamics of acceleration and reduced fuel consumption. Decreased the clearance, which increased the downforce and allowed the car to confidently enter the arc at high speed.
General impressions: this version of the five-door hatchback is quite an option for daily operation in urban conditions. The solid engine and high-quality suspension give the car good dynamics and confidence on the road, the exterior and the interior in general can be assessed by an average score.
