Vaccine against the virus Ebola. Vaccine from the Ebola virus in Russia

A rare, but very serious disease that threatens not only health, but life to the inhabitants of Africa and other countries - Ebola fever. When infected with this virus, a lethal outcome can reach 90%. While there is no official vaccine, however, scientists are progressively working in this direction, and what they came to, we learn from this article. Also we will find out the symptoms of this fever, preventive measures and, of course, when you can still expect the appearance of a drug against the Ebola virus in Russia and the world.

Ways of infection

This ailment can overtake a person in such situations:

  1. If he was in contact with the affected person (there was contact with blood, tears, sperm, saliva).
  2. Scientists and doctors even say that after the death of a person you can get infected by contact with body fluids.
  3. If he was in contact with a sick animal, most often these are monkeys or bats.

This disease penetrates the body through mucous and damaged skin, gets into the blood, and after a few days (from 2 to 21 days the incubation period lasts) begins to manifest ailment.

Symptomatics

The vaccine against the Ebola virus is a medicine for fever, and scientists are still trying to make a drug against the pathogens, but it's too early to talk about it, because the ideal version has not been found yet. But let us dwell on the symptoms of this illness, which are expressed in the following:

  1. There is fever, weakness, chills, headache, vomiting, diarrhea.
  2. After the first symptoms appear additional: dry cough, colic in the chest area.
  3. After 5-6 days there are signs of dehydration, the work of the liver and kidneys is disrupted.
  4. A dark small rash is another inconstant symptom of the Ebola virus.
  5. The presence of bleeding from the nose and mouth - these indicators are in 50% of patients.

Unfortunately, death occurs very often already on the 8-10th day due to renal failure and cerebral edema.

How to defend yourself?

Since the protection against the Ebola fever vaccine is not yet deduced, it follows that there are no specific measures aimed at preventing or eliminating this disease. Therefore, it is necessary to protect yourself and your family from possible infection, but for this you should take advantage of these tips:

  1. It is better to avoid visiting those countries in which outbreaks of this disease are registered.
  2. People who are still in such areas should observe personal hygiene, refrain from contact with animals (most often infected from monkeys and bats), as well as with sick people.
  3. It is necessary to wear a face mask, long-sleeved clothing and gloves in case the person cares for the injured person.
  4. When the first signs of an illness appear, within 21 days after a trip to Africa, you need to urgently seek help from specialists, tell the doctor about the time and place of stay abroad, tell about possible contact with animals, sick people.

Until the vaccine is released, the prevention of this dangerous disease is the only chance of salvation.

How is fever treated in the world?

First of all, it is necessary to prevent dehydration of the body. For this, fluid is replenished intravenously or orally. If there is such a need, then respiratory support and homeostatic therapy are additionally carried out. The vaccine against the Ebola virus was not made by pharmacological companies, as for them it turned out to be unprofitable because of a small market for the drug.

However, this issue was given due attention: several American companies developed the drug and conducted its successful experiments on animals. But this fact was not made public at first, since the United States authorities believed that this virus could be used as a biological weapon. Therefore, the Ministry of Defense of America and the National Institute of Health independently conducted experiments.

Currently, a remedy for Ebola fever (the vaccine, as experts say) is tested in animals, and when it is specifically applied to humans, it is still unknown.

Why have not you released a cure for this type of virus?

Pharmaceutical companies do not want to make a drug for the poor, because for such corporations the market seems small. These firms considered that the vaccine against the Ebola virus would not bring them profit. They argue their arguments: the outbreak of fever was recorded only in small areas, and then within Africa. They also believe that people from other continents will not be affected by this disease. And, of course, the infected population is people who live in the poorest parts of Africa, which means they can not pay for a new vaccine. Therefore, pharmaceutical corporations find this market unpromising. Huge enterprises will wait for the fever to reach other continents, spread all over the world. And to voice what they want is not accepted: corporations need a moment when a sufficient number of potential buyers from Europe, the USA, Australia and South America will be infected.

There is an exit?

But how to prevent the penetration of this fever into other continents, so that it does not destroy people? Now we need to wait for financial support from developed countries or hope that these leading states of the world will still be able to negotiate with pharmacological corporations to compensate for the production of a medicine for Africa that can not pay for itself, and the vaccine for the Ebola virus is not available to it.

But still there are states that at least somehow help poor people from the hot continent. The active position was taken by Great Britain, which allocated more than 100 million pounds sterling for this purpose. With this money, the country's authorities decided to send 750 military men, about 1,000 medical personnel, to Africa who will provide the necessary assistance to those affected by the Ebola virus.

America also provides support to the inhabitants of this continent, the authorities sent their people to Liberia. The French government decided to help people from Guinea, where there are also outbreaks of this fever.

However, these actions are only priceless, but still a drop in the sea. And while the rich powers are looking for money to produce the drug from this fever, the people of Africa die before our eyes.

Carrying out experiments in Russia

In our country, too, a vaccine is created from the Ebola virus. According to the Minister of Health of Russia Veronika Skvortsova, in 2015, will develop directions for the development of four drugs that can defeat the virus. The vaccine will be made from the "killed" strain of Ebola, and three others - genetically engineered. The drugs will be inactivated, that is, "inanimate".

V. Skvortsova also reported good news that Russian scientists developed a new medicine called "Triazaverin" in the form of capsules. This drug is very effective in dealing with the fever of Marburg, which is similar to Ebola's disease. Therefore now this drug is also tested on strains of the virus, brought from African countries.

When to wait for the drug in Russia?

For now, there is nothing to be afraid of, because there were no other cases when the Ebola virus entered the country. The vaccine in Russia can be ready by 2016. The Ministry of Health of the country informed the public about this. But, in addition, that it will already be available, it is also necessary to fulfill a number of requirements. It is necessary to obtain permits for its application on the person. So far, preclinical trials are being conducted, and according to their results a dossier will be compiled. Scientists plan that in March Russia will be able to inform WHO about the possible use of the vaccine in humans. After this, the World Health Organization should make public its recommendations and designate the country where the next stage of the study will be conducted. Therefore, while talking about vaccinating people early, because there is still a lot to do on the road to victory over this African fever.

Facts about the Ebola virus

1. Why such a name? The fever received its name from the place where it was first discovered. The Ebola River (in the Republic of the Congo) is located near the point where the first case was registered.

2. The onset of infection. There is evidence that in Africa this epidemic has spread from animals, in particular, from the fishes. People used badly roasted meat and thus became infected.

3. The first flash. In 1975, there was a case of the disease with this virus, and it was in the Republic of the Congo. Then infected were 318 people, 280 of them were killed.

4. Current statistics. In August 2014, 1779 cases of this virus were registered, 961 were fatal.

Now you know what the fever is like that rages in West Africa, and you understand how dangerous it is to humans. The vaccine against the Ebola virus is developed by several countries, including Russia, but so far it is still tested on animals. And that the fever does not reach the inhabitants of other continents, the world community needs to "wake up" and understand how easily this disease can penetrate into any country. While there are no medicines against this disease, therefore it remains to observe only elementary preventive measures in order not to get infected with the Ebola virus.
