Utkin Vladimir Fedorovich: photo and biography

Utkin Vladimir Fedorovich is a well-known figure in the field of Soviet and Russian rocketry. He gave most of his life to the design bureau "Yuzhnoe" (Dnepropetrovsk, Ukraine), having served as its head.

The Childhood of a Scientist

On October 17, 1923, in the now defunct Poberobor village in Ryazan, Vladimir Fedorovich Utkin appeared. His family was a large family - parents raised four sons. Mama Anisia Yefimovna devoted all her time to the children, being a housewife, and Father Fyodor Dementevich was first a factory worker in his native village, and then worked as an economist planner at the cast-iron foundry of Lashma village, where the family of Utkin moved shortly after Vladimir's birth.

High school in the old town of Kasimov, the future rocket designer graduated with a round honors pupil. Maturity Maturity Utkin received in June 1941. And then the Great Patriotic War began ...

War

Vladimir Fedorovich Utkin, whose biography began in the twenty-third year, belonged to that generation of Soviet men who went to the front virtually immediately after the graduation ball. In October 1941 he was to turn eighteen years old, and in August the young man was drafted into the Red Army.

Having mastered the profession of military telegraph operator, Utkin fell into the very heat of war. First, he defended his homeland as part of the 21st separate communications regiment. After a while he was transferred to the 49th separate company of communications. From 1942 to 1945 he fought on different fronts: the First Ukrainian, Third Byelorussian, Southern, Fourth Ukrainian, North Caucasian and Volkhov. I reached Berlin. He was awarded various orders and medals.

Student years

Back home with a victory, Utkin Vladimir Fedorovich hastened to realize his dream - to get a higher education. Following the example of his elder brother Alexei, he travels to the city on the Neva and enters the military-mechanical institute, which forged cadres for the country's military industry. The best representatives of the industrial and technical intelligentsia of the Soviet Union studied here.

In spite of the fact that Vladimir graduated with honors from the school, he was hardly able to get his institute knowledge. Five years have passed since the graduation ball, and much has been forgotten. In addition, the student had to earn extra money to provide for himself. And this is not the best way to affect learning. First he unloaded the cars, and at senior courses for him there was a place in the research sector of the institute, where he passed a very important practice. Diploma specialist Utkin received in 1952.

Yuzhnoye Commercial Bank

As noted above, most of his life, Vladimir Fedorovich Utkin devoted his work to the design bureau "Yuzhnoye" at the machine-building plant in Dnepropetrovsk, where he fell into the distribution immediately after graduation. This factory was built by the whole country, and the bureau was considered one of the leading in the Union, so this distribution could be considered a great success.

Initially, it was planned that the company would produce cars, but at that time the space campaign was gaining momentum in the Soviet Union, and the leadership decided to use the factory capacities for the production of missiles.

Utkin Vladimir Fedorovich began his career in the bureau as a design engineer, and continued as a senior engineer, the head of the group, the deputy head of the department, the deputy chief designer and finally the general director of the Yuzhnoye Commercial Bank.

In 1986, Yuzhmash was headed by the future president of Ukraine Leonid Kuchma. At that time, Vladimir Fedorovich Utkin was appointed the director of the bureau. Photo, on Which are sealed two prominent figures, can be found in the archives of the enterprise, in the newspapers of those years.

Professional achievements

During his work in the design bureau, Utkin showed himself to be a talented scientist and wise leader who could find alternative scientific and technical solutions with minimal resource-time costs. This strategy was the main activity of Vladimir Fedorovich.

When he was his chief designer, and then the director of Yuzhnoye, he distinguished himself by the creation of spacecraft and modern rocket vehicles. Under the strict guidance of Utkin, four missile systems were designed, manufactured and put into operation, equaling the Soviet Union's space achievements with similar American ones.

The real pride of the bureau was the Zenit rocket, which is highly efficient, environmentally friendly and capable of putting up to twelve tons of payload into orbit; As well as the solid-propellant aggregate RT-23 and the super-powerful R-36M missile, which has no analogues in the United States of America and is known in the circle of international military experts as "Satan".

Here are listed the achievements to which a person named Vladimir Fedorovich Utkin is involved, briefly. His biography, referring to the period of work in the design office, is actually much richer and deserves a whole book.

The international cooperation

Vladimir Fedorovich devoted a lot of time and energy to various international projects. One of the most productive was the large-scale program "Intercosmos", in which scientists from different countries jointly mastered the near-Earth space. You can also recall the project "Arcade", implemented together with the French.

Central Research Institute

The last decade of the twentieth century and his life, Utkin Vladimir Fedorovich gave work to the Central Research Institute of Mechanical Engineering of the Russian Space Agency, where he served as director. During this period, the scientist saw the main goal of his activity as transferring the country's rocket and space sector to new "economic tracks". In this direction Utkin made a lot.

He made a huge contribution to the development of programs for experiments and applied research aboard the ISS orbital stations and Mir. Under his sensitive leadership, studies were conducted on different sections of the Federal Space Program of the Russian Federation. Research and design work was carried out to create special purpose vehicles. Thanks to an agreement with the United States, technical support was provided for various problems related to the operation of the ISS station.

Memory

Utkin Vladimir Fedorovich - scientist, leader, author of many scientific articles and books, deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the Soviet Union, twice Hero of Socialist Labor - left this world on February 15, 2000.

In memory of him, medals (Gold and Silver) were instituted, which are awarded to talented scientists for their achievements in the field of rocketry.

Utkin's outstanding contribution to the development of rocket and space technology and science is demonstrated by his scientific and state awards, academic degrees and titles. Behind them is the enormous work and achievements of Vladimir Fedorovich.

In the settlements where Utkin spent his childhood, his busts were installed. The same monument is in Ryazan. And on the buildings of the school, which produced a talented scientist, and the house in which he lived, memorial plaques are cherished in memory of Vladimir Fedorovich. He was buried in Moscow on the Troyekurovsky cemetery.
