What is an edging beam?

Rare construction can do without the use of edging bars. This lumber has found quite a wide application in shipbuilding, wooden housing construction and interior decoration. This material is a solid log, cut off from all sides, having a rectangular or square section and made of coniferous trees (such as pine, spruce, fir, larch).

Classification

Depending on the quality, the edging bar is divided into the first and second grade:

  • The first one is the processed lumber, which has no stains and knots.
  • The second grade is a product with some defects.

Also, the edged board can be dry or of natural moisture. Dry material is considered more demanded, as it significantly reduces the shrinkage of finished structures. In addition, such material is easy, convenient to operate and transport, much less prone to fungi and rot.

Eaves can be processed in various ways:

  • Calibrated - completely dried and processed.
  • Double-crocheted - processed lengthwise from opposite sides.
  • Three-faced - has three longitudinally treated surfaces.
  • Quadrant - processed from all 4 longitudinal sides.

The most popular is the three-cantile variant, because it allows creating attractive buildings with an aesthetic side with a surface that is comfortable for decorative finishing. Houses built from such a bar, on the outside look as solid, and the internal walls are smooth, suitable for any kind of finishes.

Trims: Dimensions

The size of the edging beam can be as follows:

  • Thickness - from 25 to 200 mm;
  • Length - 3-6 m;
  • Width between 50 and 250 mm.

According to GOST, the width and thickness of the edging beam must be at least 100 mm. All that is thinner is called a bar.

Application

Bar - the most common type of sawn timber, which has a very wide range of applications. It is used as a structural material in various wooden structures. With its help, beams of ceilings, walls, various roofing systems, etc. are built. In addition, this lumber has found wide application in the furniture industry and in the manufacture of joinery.

In recent years, special edgings have been given to timber in the wooden house building. Due to its ecological compatibility and manufacturability, it is very in demand in the construction of load-bearing walls of houses, attic floors, etc.
