USB microphone for home and studio

A microphone is a device that converts sound waves into electronic form. On the shelves of stores selling these devices, you will find a huge range of products that will satisfy the needs of any ordinary user. The vast majority of microphones that are on sale are dynamic. This is the simplest device and inexpensive, which is why such microphones are widely used.

For home use, dynamic USB microphones are the golden mean between quality and price. Of course, on the market there are models for the studio, which are also dynamic, but in the framework of this article we will talk about something else. So how do you choose a USB microphone?

First of all, you need to determine the tasks that you intend to solve with the help of this device. If you need a USB microphone for communication, then you can opt for cheap models. But if the quality for you is in the first place, then it is worth paying attention to more expensive devices.

A few definitions

To date, there are two types of microphones: dynamic and capacitor. Dynamic devices are inexpensive devices that provide an acceptable level of quality. On the device such microphones are a backward action speaker. Receiving sound vibrations, the membrane is attached to a coil located in a magnetic field. When the membrane oscillates in the coil circuit, an electrical signal appears, which displays the sound.

Condenser microphones are expensive devices that allow you to record sound of high quality, but the price for them, respectively, is high. The device of such a device consists of a special film, which is covered with gold on one side. It is located next to a plate made of a material that conducts electricity well. When the plate oscillates, the electric charge strength changes. We will not go deep into this topic, because it is quite extensive. A similar USB microphone studio will provide a high level of sound quality. If you are a professional singer or musician, we recommend that you choose this type of device.

Let us highlight some of the positive and negative aspects of dynamic microphones. Such devices feel good in conditions when there is a very high noise level - they are able to selectively capture sound. It must be understood at the same time that a dynamic USB microphone is capable of capturing only sounds that are reproduced in close proximity to it. For concerts only dynamic microphones are used. The main disadvantage of such devices is that they are able to capture only a certain frequency range.

For home use, a cheaper USB microphone will do. You may ask, why is the USB port used instead of the standard connectors on the sound card? And the answer is quite simple: this port is used everywhere, and to connect the microphone, as a rule, no additional drivers are required.
