Truck tractor MAZ-504

In the Soviet times Minsk Automobile Plant produced MAZ-504. Tractor in the basic configuration was produced in the period from 1965 to 1970. Later, on its basis, several more modifications were developed. About this a little lower.

MAZ-504 is part of the "golden five-hundredth series", which brought the manufacturer popularity. Models of this series were assembled from completely new units and mechanisms that had not previously been used in the enterprise. So, they differed in the design of the cabin, a more powerful engine, a shorter base, telescopic shock absorbers and a hydraulic power steering. More than forty years of the model of this series were the leaders in the market.

MAZ-504 replaced the model with a working index of 511. Its main difference from the predecessor was that it is intended for long trips with trailers and semitrailers. The MAZ-511 dump truck did not have this capability.

On the basis of this model, several modifications were made:

  • MAZ-504B, which had a semitrailer-dumper with a hydraulic drive. In addition, there were no other differences from the base version.
  • MAZ-504B. Developed for use in international transport. The model differed more powerful engine.

MAZ-504: technical specifications

The first models, descended from the assembly line in 1965, received a working index of 504. Together with the trailing device, each of them weighed 14.4 tons. The permissible load on the rear axle was 10 tons. The wheelbase was 3.4 meters. This version was equipped with a power unit with a capacity of 180 horsepower. It was a four-stroke engine with six cylinders YaMZ-236. The fuel consumption averaged 32 liters per hundred kilometers.

The water cooling system of the motor was closed type. Transmission mechanical. The gearbox had 5 speeds. Coupling of dry type, two-disk.

The brake system is represented by two kinds of brakes: foot and parking. Foot brake pneumatic, all-wheel drive. In addition, a centrally located parking brake was installed. Both of them worked at the expense of the installed brake pads.

Frame rivet type. The towing device is a "fork" type. Suspension spring, supplemented with telescopic hydraulic shock absorbers.

Cabin

The MAZ-504 was equipped with an all-metal cab without a hood, but with two doors. It was installed above the engine. For the maintenance of the cabin reclined at an angle of 45 degrees. The cab was fixed with reliable locking mechanisms, which prevented the cab from capsizing even during the accident.

The cabin housed the driver and two passengers. The driver's seat had several adjustments to the position. For rest there was a bed. For convenient storage of things and tools, special boxes are provided.

Additional options included heating and ventilation. Instruments on the panel were highlighted. To illuminate the cab there is an upper cover.

The production of the MAZ-504 model ended in 1970, when it was replaced by an upgraded version of the MAZ-504A.
