In the northwest of Ukraine is Zhytomyr region, and it is a small town Radomyshl. In eighty kilometers from Kiev. In the town there is the man-made castle Radomysl. How beautiful its name, which comes from two roots - "joy" and "thought", is also beautiful and the castle. Judge for yourself. Here it is - magnificent Radomysl. History of the town of Radomyshl

From ancient times, these fertile lands were inhabited by people. The place was strategic. It is believed that it was here that Olga was encamped, who went to punish Drevlyane for killing her husband. Later, trade routes passed through these lands, along which goods from Kiev passed through 8 countries to the far Iberian peninsula. But in the first mentions in the Ipatiev Chronicle, which date back to 1150 and in which Radomyshl meets, the castle has not yet appeared. In those days it was called Myskiy, probably because the Myka River flowed through it. Downstream, it flows into the Dnieper.

Paper factory

The Kiev-Pechersk Lavra built a Papyrnu paper factory in Radomysle (as it was called in the 16th-17th centuries). From that time the settled place became fortified. Radomyshl moved from the Orthodox Church to the Catholic church. In XVIII-XIX centuries there is an intensive development of the town. A brewery is being built, schools, theater, post office, telegraph, roads, bridges appear. And the old Papyrnja is destroyed. In its place there is a mill. But she will not live long. Under the Soviet regime flour mills will grow everywhere. Only strong walls will remain from Papyrni. In the 90 years all the republics of the USSR are experiencing a decline. Radomyshl was no exception. The population and so of not a big town began to leave for work in big cities.

Revival

Who could imagine what would become the historical and cultural center of Radomyshl! The castle, built on the remains of Papyrni, which stands on a granite rock, attracts tourists here and becomes the spiritual center of the country.

Olga Bogomolets feat

A doctor and deputy, poetess and singer, patron and collector is Olga Bogomolets. She created the castle Radomysl. The beginning has put a fragment of the icon, trampled in a dirt on which only eyes were saved.

Continued meeting flea market. Rummaging in a pile of rags, Olga found a small plaque with the image of a saint. She asked the seller about her and found out that this is the home children's saint, Ustinian, who is prayed to give the children intelligence. With this began the hobby of icons written in Ukraine. They differ from the strictly Byzantine canon in that their faces are bright, they radiate love and joy.

Twenty years later, when the collection began to make up five thousand units, Olga needed not just a place to store them, but a museum where everyone could examine them in detail.

"New house"

The remains of the old mill in Radomyshl in 2007 were sold cheaper than a car. At this announcement Olga Bogomolets accidentally came and went to inspect them. There were no cracks in the walls, as there were no roofs either. But there were mountains of garbage. But still it was exactly what you need. Trash was taken out for 3 months. And the repair began. There was no plan, no estimate. When there was money - put a roof, there was no money - repair stopped. Nobody helped Olga financially. So, windows were gradually inserted, heating was carried out, a refectory was equipped (an old oven was removed and a modern one was installed). Built and finished the guest rooms, each of which is a small museum. So the castle Radomysl grew year after year.

She traveled with her husband to Europe, and all unanimously said that this is a unique museum of its kind, which has no analogues. It's just the roads. It's easy to say - to pave the way. Suddenly, the state helped. After all, in a small town with a population of 13 thousand inhabitants, tourists were drawn. From 2012 to 2016 they were visited by more than one hundred thousand!

Pearl of the Edge

Radomysl Castle is unique in many ways. First, it stands on a rock created by nature during the Paleolithic times. He has no other foundation. It is surrounded by water. Secondly, it is huge. Its area is 2.5 thousand square meters. M. Third, from which side you look - it looks different from different directions. And last, the tower (35 m) with a bell in eight floors connects three wings. The spiral staircase of the tower has 138 steps.

There is even a legend that if a person can climb to the tower without stopping, he will look from the observation deck to the island of Love, which has a heart shape, and call, tugging the bell, then his wish will come true. There will come pure love and a strong family life.

In the halls of the museum

Entering the museum, you immediately feel a special, medieval aura. Through the thick walls does not penetrate the street noise and din. Hurry in it is not necessary. Through the halls you can walk for a long time, and then reinforce your exhausted forces in the refectory. Since we have already mentioned it, let us say a few words.

In an old refectory on an open fire, water boils in a boiler with a capacity of 60 liters. Food is prepared in a large modern oven, which can serve as a fireplace. The walls are decorated with copies of ancient maps of Ukraine, Europe and Asia. From the kitchen, we begin to inspect the castle Radomysl. The description of the main halls will be given below.

Concert, Fireplace, or Mikhailovsky Hall

In the corner there is a variety platform, next to the piano and guitar, a fireplace with the sculpture of Archangel Michael. The music plays quietly. The hall, one of the best in Europe, accommodates 150 listeners. Its height is six meters. The walls of the unfinished stone tell us that we are in an ancient room. Through them, water enters the hall. Its living sources come from rock. Not the chairs, but the benches are intended for the attentive listener, who will not be distracted.

The soul of the people

Icons are a reflection of the inner life of a person. They are carefully located in all rooms that housed the castle museum Radomysl. Here are only home icons, which were often written by order of both professionals and delicately loving fans. Their sizes are different.

It can be iconostasis several meters high and very tiny images, arches and folds. All of them were once thrown out, but a miracle saved them, and they returned to the people. An exceptional and unique exhibit is the icon of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker of the 12th century, made on stone. Tens of thousands of people carefully applied to it and handed over their energetic energy. In all seasons the stone is not cold, it is warm. The image of the Prelate keeps mercy and faith in the people.

Papyrnja

You can not miss this dark hall with ancient objects, from which the history of the museum began. Only the lamps lightly illuminate the room. Radomisl Castle has revived the process of making paper that existed centuries ago. Paper is made from nettles, flax and hemp. The technology is complex, but the paper is durable and durable. It is marked with a watermark. Such a sheet can become a family heirloom, especially if the newlyweds do it with their own hands.

Ritual Hall

In it, surrounded by icons with the face of the Virgin Mary, weddings are held. It is designed for 100 people. The holiday itself can be organized in nature, in a castle refectory or in a concert hall. In the open air young people are waiting for fireworks, carriages, live pigeons and various games, for example the search for a "golden iron". It is from it that the spiral staircase goes up. And in the concert hall at the piano beats the spring and occasionally shows the frog Gertrud. By the one who sees it, surely luck will come.

Hotel VIA REGIA

If someone decides to spend a few days in the castle, then to his comfortable rooms with beautiful views of the park and the river. Complete solitude, crackling of firewood in the fireplace, peace and quiet will restore strength and harmony. And the sounds of the waterfall will give vitality and energy. In the hotel complex there are six double rooms. Two of them are in the tower. From their windows are visible all four directions of the world. Truly these are rooms for princesses.

A park

A beautiful landscape park surrounds the castle of Radomysl. Radomyshl is proud of it on a par with the castle. So that everyone could admire the man-made beauty, tens of tons of garbage were taken from here. Then the lowlands were drained, they brought the earth, raised it above the water level. The islets were connected by bridges. Now everything here unites man and nature. Two natural waterfalls fill the air with coolness, and coniferous trees with essential oils. Breathes in it full chest.

There are everything: trees and rocks, natural springs of water, bridges thrown across streams, and even the Cape River flows through this park, filled with animals and exotic plants. In this place live otters, beavers, storks, click the nightingales in every way, filling the park with their trills. In streams it is not forbidden to fish.

About 60 varieties of irises are planted in the park. At the end of May, when they blossom, their festival takes place. In the lakes you can see white and pink lilies, and on the flower beds blossom English roses.

In general, the park consists of several lakes. They are all connected by bridges. It's hard to imagine something more beautiful. On the Island of Love, in the center, stands an ancient stone statue of a warrior. With his hand he holds the horn, as if he wants to blow his knuckles and gather his friends. On his side he has a sword. He is so old that it is not known what kind of tribe he is.

Collective Visits to Sights

This is a one-day tour, which lasts from 9 am to 5:30 pm. Departure from Kiev at 09:30, at 11:00 arrival in Radomyshl, another half hour - a visit to the St. Nicholas Church in Radomyshl. At 11:30 - entrance to the complex. The beginning will be the story of the castle's guide about its history and recreation on the remaining parts. Guests will pass along the beautiful well-groomed territory of the park, inspect the monuments, which the guide will tell about everything, then visit the ancient papyrn of the castle, look at how the paper is made. How to drive to the castle by yourself

From Art. Metro "Zhitomirskaya" shuttle taxi from Kiev, which goes to the castle Radomysl, how to drive, will not think. It goes from 7:00 to 19 hours and arrives in the center of Radomyshl. Then you need to change to bus number 2, which will take you directly to the castle. We must go back the same way.

How to get from Zhitomir? Also on a fixed-route taxi, which starts at 7:00 and goes every hour.

By car from Kiev, you need to go along the road Kiev - Zhitomir (E 40, M 06), on the 82nd km - turn to Radomyshl (remains 19 km). The entrance is on the street. Karpenko, at the bus station turn left at the sign "Radomyshl Castle" (3.5 km).

From Zhytomyr by car, the journey will be on the same highway. After the traffic police turn left to the pointer.
