Tomatoes: late blight and its treatment

Everyone knows how much effort it takes to grow tomatoes. Biofluorosis, as one of the most formidable diseases of Solanaceae, can negate all the efforts spent. This dangerous infection causes a special kind of fungus - Phytophthora infestans, whose spores are spread mainly by the wind and through rainwater.

The main signs of late blight are brown spots on the edges of the leaves and fruits, stripes of the same color on the stems, as well as white coating appearing on various parts of Solanaceae, in particular such as potatoes, eggplant and tomatoes. Phytophthorosis significantly reduces the yield of these crops, and it is very difficult to combat it. The infection of tomatoes occurs usually after infection of the potato, which is in this case the primary source of infection. Therefore, in no case should not plant tomatoes next to him.

Most dacha residents know that it is much easier to prevent than treat such an unpleasant disease as tomato late blight. Prevention is, first of all, in the fall of the leaves and the thorough digging of the beds. In addition, it is necessary to carry out treatment with fungicides, Bordeaux liquid or copper vitriol (0.1% solution). The last two drugs (optional) are applied a week before the transfer of seedlings to a permanent place.

Fungicides are used according to the instructions in the event that the first signs of disease of a plant such as tomatoes appear. Late phytophthora affects them towards the end of summer, so it is advisable to use early-ripening tomatoes for growing. In this case, the harvest can be harvested before the plants are infected. Another good preventive measure can be considered spraying tomatoes with garlic tincture. For its preparation, take 50 grams of this burning vegetable per liter of water. Plants are treated every fifteen days, beginning with the time of the appearance of the first ovaries.

Fighting tomato late blight can be carried out by trimming infected stems and leaves. Strong plants are less prone to infection. Therefore, it is important to ensure the correct maintenance of tomatoes. In the process of cultivation, it is necessary to strictly observe all the necessary technologies - in time to weed and feed the plants, and also to conduct the correct watering. In the event that the summer turned out to be rainy, you need to moisten the soil under the tomatoes as less often as possible. The fact is that phytophthora most often affects plants in moist areas.

If the disease is still massively struck by tomatoes - late blight did not recede, you should try to save at least some share of the crop. For this, green fruit is removed from the bushes, under the skin of which there are no brown spots, and they are lowered into the water heated to 60 degrees for two minutes. After that, the tomatoes are taken out and transferred to a sufficiently warm place for ripening.

Thus, in order to prevent the phytophthora from becoming a real problem on the site, it is necessary to take a number of measures without fail - periodically to process the plants, choose the right place for planting, and carry out good care for them.
