Black radish: planting and care

Black radish - a vegetable unusually useful. It contains a huge amount of essential oils and vitamins. This root is used to treat colds and improves appetite. It is very easy to grow it in a country house - this culture is absolutely unpretentious.

Black radish, the planting of which can be done both in seedling and seed, is very fond of sunny places. Most often this root crop is grown still in the open ground. However, if you want to harvest early, you can sow seedlings in special containers.

The timing of planting directly in the ground depends on the variety. The bed is prepared with compost added to the soil. In no case should you fertilize radish with fresh manure. This can lead to the fact that plants will subsequently be affected by some pests. Black radish, which can be planted in both spring and summer, prefers loose soils. Early varieties should be planted in early May, at the same time as radish. Later - in the middle of June.

If you sow the autumn variety before, the plant can release peduncles, which is highly undesirable. Therefore, the time for planting a black radish in this case must be strictly observed. Seeds are buried in the soil about 2 cm, a few seeds. The distance between rows is 40 cm, between the holes - 15 cm. When root rudiments appear, first thinning is carried out. All weak plants are removed. The second time you will need to thin the radish after the root crops have reached a size of 5-6 mm. In this case, one of the strongest plants is left in the hole.

Black radish, which is planted, as already mentioned above in the composted beds, loves periodic watering. The soil under it should by no means dry up, otherwise the roots will grow unsavory - in particular, they become hollow. They fertilize radish twice a summer. For the first time after three real leaves appear on the plant. In the second - a month after this.

As a top dressing, you can use herbal fermented infusion, two-year-old manure, compost or humus. Some gardeners consider organic fertilizers not too useful for such a plant as a black radish. Planting it can be carried out without adding to the compost beds. In this case, the plants are fed with mineral elements. Usually a mixture consisting of 60 g of superphosphate, 15 g of potassium chloride and 20 g of urea is used. Mineral fertilizers are considered by some experienced gardeners to be preferable, because in their opinion organic reduce the quality of root crops and their shelf life.

In the process of growing, if the soil under the plants is clayey, it should be periodically loosened. The autumn radish needs to be removed before the frost begins. If you are late with cleaning, root crops can become dirty.

So, the planting of black radish can be carried out (depending on the variety) in spring or summer. For a season spend two additional fertilizing with mineral or organic fertilizers and make sure that the soil under the plants does not dry out. In this case, you can get an excellent harvest of delicious and healthy roots.
