Tomatoes in the greenhouse, watering individual

Many dacha owners had an opinion that watering tomatoes in a greenhouse should be daily and abundant. Unfortunately, this is absolutely wrong approach. A distinctive feature of this type of cultivated plants is the deep location of the root system. In addition to water, they also require the presence of loose soil so that the roots can breathe. Therefore, planting tomatoes in a greenhouse, watering should be organized somewhat differently.

Microclimate of greenhouses in the middle strip of Russia

In the Central Russia , air humidity ranges from 60 to 85% from spring to autumn. In particularly hot years, which turned out to be 2010, this parameter in August did not rise above 40%. But this is, rather, an exception to the rules. Usually hot days alternate with rain, when the humidity is more than 90%. In sheltered ground, the air temperature is higher than the surrounding on cloudy days by 10 ... 13 ° С, and in the solar ones it is more than 20 ... 28 ° С. Therefore, excess water at high humidity negatively affects tomatoes in the greenhouse. Watering should be buried to the roots. To avoid waterlogging, arrange airing. It does not always give the desired result, as a result of which the growth of putrefactive fungi begins. The black leg is a frequent visitor in damp greenhouses, where tomatoes are grown. Since mid-July, when the likelihood of precipitation increases, late blight develops - a clear sign that the condensate from the inner surface of the transparent fences has appeared on the leaves and began its pernicious effect.

How much to pour tomatoes in the greenhouse, recommendations from abroad

Foreign authors promote systems of full watering of plants. From their rollers you can see how a jet of water, scattered by shower sprayers, washes tomatoes from top to bottom. At the same time voice-over text with a cheerful voice broadcasts about high harvests and their quality. You could have believed them. Only confuses the fact that the taste of imported tomatoes is far from the usual. To arrange such watering, foreign vegetable growers use so much chemical protection of plants that completely remove the feeling of the presence of real fruits. In pictures from abroad you can see beautiful tomatoes in a greenhouse, watering them is not spoiled. But there is another truth that advertisers and manufacturers of irrigation equipment do not like to show. Only a small part of the harvest of the first harvest looks so beautiful, a little later the diseases nullify all efforts to grow tomatoes.

How to actually water the tomatoes

It has already been mentioned that the root system of solanaceous cultures lies below the soil level by 20-25 cm. The roots of tomatoes in the greenhouse form quite deeply. Watering should therefore be directed to the lower part of the roots. Some critics may argue that, for example, in Israel water continuously drips near the root, and no diseases are detected by the plants. Of course, there such is permissible. But only for one reason - tomatoes in southern countries are grown outdoors in the absence of atmospheric moisture, the relative humidity of the air rarely rises above 40%. In the same Israel, morning dew occurs only during the winter, and the temperature in the coldest days rarely falls below 8 ° C. In 2012, there were a few cold days when the temperature approached the zero mark. Several people were frozen to death, and in apartment houses (there is no heating) was quite uncomfortable. Conclusion one: in our conditions, growing tomatoes in a greenhouse, watering should be organized deep into the soil in order to reduce the humidity.

How to prepare the soil in the greenhouse

In buildings of protected soil, before laying a new soil layer at a depth of 20-25 cm, a moisture accumulator should be placed. Moss, gel, used sponges for washing and other items that concentrate moisture, will keep it at a given level. Above is the soil or substrate. To the moisture accumulator it is necessary to bring the feeder tubes through which the water, passing the upper soil layer, will penetrate downward. Now you can organize a drip-watering tomato in the greenhouse. When growing tomatoes, there is also such a thing as "dry watering". In fact, it is a loosening of the soil near the roots to saturate the upper layer with air.

Subject to following these recommendations, our truck farmers can expect to receive a real high yield with excellent quality of tomato fruit.
