The southernmost point of Eurasia is Cape Piai

Travel is one way to get vivid impressions. That is why, when developing travel routes, we want to see all the very thing. So why not visit the southernmost point of continental Eurasia - Cape Piai? If there is time and desire, then it's time to get ready for the journey.

Where to look on the map

Piai is a cape located on the southern outskirts of the Malacca Peninsula. The territory is part of Malaysia. This is the district of Pontian, part of the state of Johor. Here is the Tanjung Piai National Park.

Just two kilometers from the cape is the homonymous settlement. It is quite small and poorly adapted to receive tourists. Well and on 30 km to the south is Singapore.

For those who are interested, where to find Cape Piai on the map, let's specify the coordinates:

  • Latitude: 1 ° 15'56.30 "N
  • Longitude: 103 ° 30'39.45 "E.

Disputes, disputes ...

No one is surprised that any country wants to prove that the most interesting point of the continent is on its territory. Malaysia and Singapore did not avoid such a dispute. Singaporeans say that the southernmost point of Eurasia is the island of Stenoza. Formally they are right, but this is an island, even if it is connected with the continent by bridges. And Malaysia is sure that the southern point should be sought on the tip of the continent itself.

How to get to Cape Piai

Unfortunately, it is almost impossible to find an organized excursion to the southern point of Eurasia. Most tourists travel by train Kuala Lumpur - Singapore to a small town Johor Bahru. You can get by bus, it will be even faster, but the conditions are much worse. Further, to get to Cape Piai, you can rent a car or take a taxi. Presumably there is public transport, but a trip in a crowded bus, and then a few miles on the heat on foot - it's still fun!

By car (taxi) to get to the cape for about an hour and a half. For a little extra money, the taxi driver will wait for the tourists, as required.

What you can see

As already mentioned, Cape Piai is part of a national park. The entrance to its territory is paid, but early in the morning you can get there and just like that. The road to the southernmost point lies through mangroves. It is impossible to pass directly through the swampy terrain, therefore convenient wooden bridges lead to the cape. Around silence, beauty, bright green trees and a lot of monkey beggars.

Step foot on the most southern point of Eurasia will not work. The coast, like the mangrove forest, is hot and dirty. A stable concrete pier was built to make the travelers comfortable. At the very edge of the pier is an openwork metal globe. Here you can relax on several benches and watch the ships on the roadstead. Affects the proximity of Singapore, where there is a very large port. Nearby there are piers with pavilions and seafood restaurants.

On one of the piers is a kilometer pointer. Some try to prove that this is the southernmost point, but this is a mistake. It's better to go back to the pier with the globe.

Cape Piai has several other attractions. It is a lighthouse and a stone memorial sign with images of fern branches and a map of the world.
