The series "The Witch": Sea Mortir. Who is it?

Those who heard about the premiere of the series "The Witch", of course, is familiar to the name Sea Mortire. Who is this, is interested in many. Unfortunately, most people who answer this question are mistaken and provide a deliberately false answer. So, who is she?

TV series

This picture was shot in 2015 by Ukrainian filmmakers and is currently available for viewing on many sites. Creators position their offspring as "unparalleled."

"Witch" refers to the genre of drama with elements of mysticism and consists of 20 series.

A multi-part film tells of a girl named Nadezhda (which she will later be called Sea Mortire). Who it is and where it came from, it becomes clear not from the first series, because the second performer of one of the main roles finds it under rather strange circumstances.

The plot of the series

The action takes place in a remote provincial village, whose inhabitants voluntarily abandoned the benefits of civilization in order to avoid the city's fuss. The central figure is the mysterious stranger, who is caught from the river by a local smith. The girl is so weak that she can not connect a word, so the man does not come up with anything better than taking her to his home.

The smith nurses Nadia, but she is not in a hurry to leave his dwelling, since she remembers nothing about how she ended up in the village. Meanwhile, the relationship with the population of the girl does not add up: she has such an eye-popping charm that local bachelors can not bypass her side.

Because of this, women begin to blame Nadezhda for witchcraft, and her illustrious acquaintance gives her the nickname "Sea Mortir" - a witch.

About the main heroine

In the series, the performer of the role should play a pretty kind and soft girl. Hope is charming in its confusion and simplicity, so it is not surprising that it suits the male half of the population.

Despite the seemingly false accusation of witchcraft, the girl really has the ability to win and white magic. Contrary to the opinion of others, Hope is a good witch, although it does not save her from universal condemnation.

In the course of the development of the plot, the negative attitude towards the girl only grows stronger, since the wife of the blacksmith, who lives with a young witch, unexpectedly returns to the village. She turns out to be a hereditary leader and uses her abilities against her rival.

Sea Mortire: who is it

Initially, the creators of the series wanted to draw a parallel with the Slavic goddess of death and harvest - Morenoi. But, apparently, the name was too simple, therefore it was turned over to the European motive.

In fact, however, the Latin Mare (or Sea) is translated as "the sea", "a reservoir," therefore it is rather difficult to say what prompted the writers to name the main character: the desire to Europeanize the Slav name or a thoughtful move that hints at the initial scene of the girl's appearance In the series.

Mortire from the Greek means "sufferer", which, in principle, fits into the general plot picture.

Moraine

This name has a very negative character in Slavic mythology. Morena (Mara, Morana, Marzena) is the goddess of Winter, harvest and death. The annual withering of nature and the cruelty of frosts were associated with her coming to earth.

For the Slavs, it was the embodiment of impure forces, morality and other misfortunes. When the blizzards began, people hid in their houses and tried not to go out until the weather settled. It was believed that this Morena rides his sleds on the sled, and very unlucky for someone who gets to her at this moment.

Thus, this character has nothing to do with the definition of "good witch". Although it can not be called an outspoken evil: according to myths, Mara only performed the duty entrusted to her by Rod. The death that this goddess is bearing is not the end-she is an intermediate stage, a transition to a "new Beginning."

The same can be said about the helpers of the Lady of Death, although they for the most part did not carry significant physical harm to others. But they could scare their ugly appearance, so the Slavs tried to avoid meetings with them, without going out into the yard at night.

For a long time, Mara remained a character who frightened disobedient children. And now the memory of her has not outlived itself to the end, because it is her scarecrow that is still burning for the Shrovetide festival.

The myth of the appearance of Morena

There are several versions: in one of them, Morana is the only daughter of Koshchei, in the other she is Sister Lada. In the most popular variation, Mara is also related to Lada, but in her she is the mother of the goddess of Death. The sisters of the future villain are Zhiva and Lelia, the mistress of life and spring.

The very same Morena charms Koshchei and becomes his wife, but instead of together with him enveloping the world with darkness, the goddess of deceit locks her husband in one of the rooms of the castle, and for a time becomes his only mistress. Thus, the goddess is also very clever, so she is identified with a fog and a daze, unknown forces that knock a person out of the way.

Given these facts, the parallel between the Sea Mortire (who is this, is told above) and the mythological character is practically not traced. Of course, the heroine of the series is also beautiful, but even her appearance has nothing to do with the canonical goddess, and Hope does not shine with special cunning.

Conclusion

So, in fact, from all the above appears that Sea Mortire is a fictional character, invented specifically for the series "The Witch". He has nothing to do with either the Slavs or their gifts. Therefore, the often sounding question regarding Sea Mortire ("who is this in mythology?") Is certainly not correct.
