The nature of Persian cats, distinctive features
To this beauty hardly anyone will remain indifferent, even people who do not feel tender feelings for fluffy purrs. In addition to the charming appearance attracts a soft and friendly character of Persian cats. This animal is exceptionally in every respect: the history of its origin leaves many mysteries for specialists, the breed has more than a hundred colors, but the main thing, to date, are recognized three standards of this breed. In this article, we offer you a description that is a summary processing of the FIFe, CFA and WCF standards.
Persian cat: history, description of the breed, nature
It is one of the oldest breeds of domestic cats in the world. From the XVI-XVII centuries, when these animals appeared in Europe, their history is quite clearly traced, and up to this period it is full of mysteries. Today there are several versions of the appearance of these animals in European countries. According to one of them, the Italian traveler Pietro Della Valle in the beginning of the XVI century brought them from Persia (Iran).
Another version shows that the first long-haired cats came to France from Ankara (Turkey) in the 17th century. All those who are inclined towards the second version are sure that the name of these animals is not associated with their place of origin, but with some mystery and attractiveness. In those days, Europe only opened the appeal of the East.
In fact, the Persians have much in common with Angora cats. First of all, this is the structure of the body. Both breeds have well developed shoulders and chest, a rather strong loin and strong muscular paws. In addition, both representatives of the breed have a well-defined fur collar, and in the interdigital spaces and ear shells there are bundles of wool. The nature of Persian cats in many ways resembles the nature of their Angora relatives.
At the same time, none of these versions answers the important question: how could animals with such long and thick hair appear in hot countries located in the Middle East? And in this case the versions differ. Some researchers argue that long hair is the result of a mutation. This opinion has a right to exist, because it is known that many modern breeds have arisen because of the mutation. This applies to folded cats, rexes, naked sphinxes.
Another version suggests that the ancestors of Persian cats came to Siberia from Siberia. Absolutely absurd at first sight seems to be this statement. However, it has some justifications. After all, originally Siberian cats were wild and in the course of evolution crossed with many steppe individuals. It was their distinctive feature that there were bundles of fluffy wool between the fingers, which, as is known, is inherent in the Persians.
But whatever the origin of these charming creatures, they were able to quickly conquer the hearts of animal lovers in Europe. Traveling merchants, wishing to increase the value of a living product in the eyes of buyers, argued that these handsome men - the result of crossing the manul and barhana cats.
They have another official homeland of Persian cats. Description of the breed, which can be read in many directories, confirms that in the XIX century British breeders were closely engaged in long-haired cats. They divided them into Persian and Angora. Only then did they somehow consider that Persian cats should have only blue color.
In parallel with the British breeders, the work was carried out by the Germans, crossing representatives of the Angora breed with other long-haired animals.
Unsuccessful experiments of Americans
It should be said that breeders from the USA made not the best contribution to the breed at the end of the 20th century. They started breeding animals with extra-long hair and a heavily flattened nose. As a result, they received a lot of defective animals, which, despite this, were sold in Europe. However, in the end they brought extremists, which became very popular in the world.
Persian cat in Russia
In our country these animals ended up after the end of the Cold War. They were brought by diplomats in the late eighties from business trips. At that time Persian cats were considered a rare rarity. Description of the breed, the nature of the animals attracted the attention of breeders of Russia. They, however, liked more than extreme, and more refined type of cats, with a softer and classic profile.
External Features
Perhaps you have heard that representatives of Persian breed are sometimes called cats with the face of a child. Probably, this is not an accident. Feature of the breed is a small but wide and snub nose. Depending on its form, several varieties are distinguished. Animals with a very snub nose, reminiscent of a Pekingese, are called extremals. If the spout is elongated and slightly upturned, then we can talk about the classic type of rock. Cats with huge eyes, in which the nose of the nose is at the level of the lower eyelid, refer to the modern type of animals.
The Persian cat of all varieties has:
- A three-dimensional thorax;
- Strong and muscular paws;
- Fairly wide back;
- Wide and large head;
- Small rounded ears;
- Strong neck;
- Short tail;
- Expressive and big eyes.
Coat
Great hair - the pride of these animals. At the same time, it greatly complicates the care of the Persian cat. Many experts argue that Persians are the only representatives of long-haired animals. All other breeds should be classified as medium- or short-haired.
Persian wool reaches a length of 20 cm. Its structure is silky and delicate, it feels like fluff to the touch. Strangely enough, but the Persian wool does not play its main role. The fact is that some varieties do not even have an undercoat, but because such a wool does not warm on the street in winter.
Coloring
Persian cat, the character of which attracts many animal lovers, is characterized by a huge variety of colors. Today there are hundreds of their varieties. Everything is difficult to describe - gray and blue, red and cream, red and purple.
The color of the coat is the same along the entire length of black, white and tortoiseshell cats. More complex types of color have a lighter than the main cover, undercoat, for example, smoky, light sand, etc. Magnificent Persians with blue eyes often have bright areas on the light wool. Such species are called "color-point".
Persian chinchilla
In more detail we will talk about one of the colors. Persians are extraordinary cats. The Persian chinchilla, whose character, its refined external data, habits are unique, can safely claim the title of aristocrat in a cat family. Practically at all international competitions chinchilla deservedly takes the leading position due to its exquisite beauty.
Her spectacular exterior is invariably in the center of attention. A snow-white fur coat, a pink earlobe, huge wide-open eyes of emerald color, sponges with a dark rim can not but cause sincere admiration. This is a recognized fashion model, which often adorns the covers of magazines, her photo is printed on calendars and posters. But the main thing is that with such an outstanding appearance, the chinchilla has a calm and peaceful nature.
She is trustful and affectionate, like a child. In the master-extrovert this Persian cat needs. The description of the breed by well-known specialists contains recommendations to the owners: remember that in the absence of attention from the owner to this cat, it can become lethargic and apathetic. It is for this reason that it is advisable not to leave it for a long time alone.
The wonderful nature of Persian cats allows them to be kept in families with children. Furry handsome men will be happy to play with the kids, and if too noisy and active fun will make them tired, they will simply go to their place. To vagrancy this cat is not at all predisposed.
Snow white beauty in comparison with the rest of the breed is very emotional, and she expresses emotions for any reason. Therefore, we can say that these are "talkative" cats. They meet the host with a rumbling, plaintively telling him about loneliness in his absence, can terribly growl if their wool is processed without proper accuracy.
If you become the owner of a snow-white chinchilla, then you will need a professional shampoo designed for white cats, so that her hair does not turn dark and yellow. Feed these cats follows a high-quality, high-calorie diet, which is supplemented with omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids for shine and skin health. For prevention, it is necessary to give cats a mast-paste for removing lumps of wool from the stomach.
The chinchillas often flow tears, so her eyes should be regularly washed with preventive drops. With good care and proper maintenance, the chinchilla lives for about 15 years.
Care for the Persians
If the character of Persian cats usually does not create problems for the owners, care of such a pet is considered difficult. Of course, this is due to the fine wool that needs daily combing, if you do not want it to roll into the coils that will need to be cut.
Specialists recommend using special powders, which are made on the basis of talc or chalk. In addition, you will need a whole set of brushes and special care products for wool. We want to warn future owners that even with regular combing out in your house there will be a lot of wool.
Wool is the most important indicator, allowing you to judge how well your Persian cat is. The nature of these animals is, of course, complaisant, but if you do not accustom a kitten from an early age to hygienic procedures, over time they will become a torture for both you and your pet.
There is one more feature of the breed, which should be known to those wishing to have such a pet. This is their famous kurnosost, which, in fact, is a defect in the nasal septum, preventing the animal from fully breathing. Therefore Persians in a dream a little snore.
Feeding
Despite its spectacular appearance, the Persian breed of cats is not spoiled in nutrition. The nature of these animals manifests itself even in this. Feed the Persians (adult animals) two to three times a day. Food should be rich in protein. Quite suitable high quality food (dry or wet), which should be well balanced and have a complete set of trace elements and vitamins.
Health
A Persian cat is a healthy animal, but there are diseases to which it is genetically predisposed. This, in the first place, kidney disease, which in time can cause kidney failure.
Recorded among Persian cats and cases of blindness, which are associated with retinal atrophy. This is a hereditary disease. But the most dangerous disease that can threaten the Persians is hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. This is a serious heart pathology, which can cause the death of the animal.
Character
The Persian cat is famous for its mild and gentle nature. The nature and habits of this beautiful animal attract both experienced cat-lovers and people who did not previously have pets. Persians are not vindictive, although they can take offense if they are not noticed and do not give them due attention. In this case, they try to hide in a secluded corner. But as soon as you hail your pet, he instantly rushes and, purring, will rub at your feet.
Persian cats are very sociable and affectionate. Especially it concerns cats. With proper education, these cute animals quickly and easily get used to any procedure, whether combing or bathing. Quite often the Persian cat carries the necessary manipulations with such a kind, as if she is doing a great favor to the owner, allowing her to touch herself. In reality, this means that she is accustomed to certain procedures and fully trusts the owner.
Adult animals are balanced and nesotelivy. They can lie for hours if nothing interesting happens around. But these cats will never refuse to play if the owner offers a small plastic ball or a fur mouse. Persian cats are extremely attached to a person. Your furry friend will always be around, because he does not like to be alone.

The same trouble awaits the animal, if the owner does not close the fireplace in the house with a protective screen.
- Do not be surprised if your pet chooses a place for resting the camera of a dryer or washing machine. Make sure that the doors of these devices are always closed, and before using them, check the contents.
