On the first day, detectives begin to suspect that strange things are happening in the hospital. Around gloomy and oppressive atmosphere, a sense of fear and understatement. It seems that both doctors and patients are not happy with the appearance of unexpected guests and something is withheld from them.

While the main characters are trying to unravel the tangle of lies, a powerful hurricane begins on the island, and patients of the clinic make a riot. As a result of incidents, investigators remain cut off from the outside world and gradually reveal some ominous secrets.

Hero DiCaprio begin to torment hallucinations, and soon to distinguish fiction from reality becomes more difficult. The denouement of the film turns the whole story upside down and forces us to rethink everything that was happening on the screen in a different light.

Main character

Leonardo DiCaprio got a very mixed role for the federal marshal Teddy Danniels, a widower and veteran of the war. His character tries to unravel the plans and secrets of the people living on the island, but at the same time he suffers from constant headaches and tragic personal memories.

According to the actor's recognition, Martin Scorsese forced all the participants of the shooting hours to review the old films in order to imbue with the atmosphere of that time. The result did not disappoint the director - DiCaprio organically blended into the image. To be sure, it is worth paying attention to his gait and manner of smoking, which correspond to the behavior of people beginning the second half of XX century.

It is not for nothing that Leonardo's talent is fully revealed in many ways thanks to his participation in the films of Martin Scorsese. In each new film, the director challenges DiCaprio with increasingly complex acting tasks.

In "The Island of the Damned," Leonardo had to portray a fine line that separates the common man from the mentally inadequate. It is worth noting that the character of DiCaprio turned out to be very lively. It is impossible not to feel all of his fears and feelings, distrust and pain.

His hero throughout the film was haunted by visions caused by a sense of guilt and bitterness of loss. The actor told in an interview that scenes of dreams and flashbacks, when he sees that Nazis killed by him in the war, the ghost of his deceased wife, were given to him the hardest. Nevertheless, DiCaprio plays at such moments so convincingly that the spectator himself ceases to distinguish between reality and hallucinations.

Mark Ruffalo plays the role of Chuck Oul, Teddy's assistant. The actor brilliantly depicts calmness and phlegmaticness against the background of an emotional partner during all the plot twists and turns. Doctor-psychiatrists

Legendary Ben Kingsley played the role of one of the key figures in the film - Dr. Cowley, the head physician in the entire hospital. The actor has ideally approached under type of the hero, shrouded in secret throughout all film. What is only his sharp look with a spark of frenzy! Ben creates the image of a man with aristocratic manners, but what is hidden behind them?

He described the film as an excellent symphony in his interview, but noted that the shootings were quite exhausting. He said that Martin created on the site a tense atmosphere with the help of special tricks - he suddenly changed the angle of cameras and lighting during the recording of scenes. However, thanks to such tricks heroes, in a sense, did not even have to play paranoia, this feeling arose naturally.

The famous Swedish actor Max von Sydow appears in "The Island of the Damned" as the elderly doctor of psychiatry - Jeremy Neyring. What is remarkable, the actor at the time of filming was 80 years old, but his game is still gorgeous. Max von Sydow retained an expressive look, not at all appropriate to his age.

Elias Koteas plays the role of psycho Andrew Leddis, who, presumably, is also a prisoner of a gloomy clinic. In the course of the story it turns out that the protagonist Teddy arrived on the island not only to investigate the disappearance of the patient, but also to find the murderer of his wife.
