The economic and geographical position of Mexico: characteristics, interesting facts

The geographical position of Mexico can be safely called beneficial. The fact is that this country occupies almost a third of the territory of North America. It borders the United States in the north, the eastern part of Mexico is washed by the Caribbean Sea, and the western by the Pacific Ocean. A huge number of different sized islands, which are located near the coast of the country in the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean, are also part of Mexico. Despite the fact that most of the country's territory is occupied by mountains and plateaus, local people have learned how to use them for their own benefit.

The economic and geographical position of Mexico is not likely to be briefly described, since it is considered a developed state that plays an important role in Latin America. Naturally, it was not always so. In the olden days, Mexico was considered a "third world" country, that is, it belonged to the developing states. But to date, the situation has changed dramatically, because there is already absolutely everything for a comfortable life, and technology is developing at a tremendous speed.

Administrative device

To be convenient to manage the economic development of the country, administratively it was divided into 31 states and one federal district. Each state has its own governor and its own laws. Separately it is worthwhile to dwell on the federal district, since it is organized a little differently than the states.

In the central part of Mexico is its capital - Mexico City. It is the only district in the country, that is, a special political entity that includes the central part of the metropolitan metropolis. Its inhabitants themselves elect representatives of the executive and legislative branches. But it is interesting that the head of the district has fewer powers than the governors of the states.

Climatic conditions and economic development

The physico-geographical position of Mexico contributes to the development of many industries. First of all, we should carefully study the climate. In the country, four climatic zones prevail. The Mexicans define them as follows:

  1. Sultry. It includes all areas of the country located along the coast and directly at the foot of the mountains. It's always hot here, regardless of the season, so these areas are used by local residents to develop resorts. Also in autumn there is a lot of precipitation, so there is enough moisture for the tropical forests.
  2. A warm belt is located at an altitude of 1500 m above sea level. Here grows a huge number of rare trees, which are actively used in the woodworking industry.
  3. Next is a cool belt, which is located at an altitude of more than 1600 m and occupies the largest space in the country. Here grow oak and pine forests, and where precipitation falls rarely, desert plateaus are formed.
  4. The last belt is considered frosty. It includes the mountains themselves, which is why it is at an altitude of 2700 m. There are suitable conditions for agriculture, because it is the population of the country that lives on the territory of this belt that is engaged in it.

A successful location makes Mexico an excellent place for a resort holiday, which brings additional and quite substantial income to the treasury of the state. All the beaches are either on the Pacific or on the Atlantic coast. As for the holiday season, here they last all year round, as the air temperature on the coast does not drop below 20 degrees.

In Mexico, any traveler can find a job for himself. For example, you can dive, explore the caves and admire the national parks, which are many. All this and much more all year round attracts tourists to the country.

Natural resources and their use

If we describe the geographical position of Mexico briefly, then we can safely say that it is more than favorable. Its territory is rich in various minerals. Mexico is rightly considered one of the leaders among Latin American countries for the extraction of ore. And this is true, because on its territory there is an ore belt. There is a constant development of deposits of copper and iron ore, and there are also small deposits of uranium.

The peculiarities of the geographical location of Mexico make it possible to extract and export to other countries silver, zinc, magnesium, cadmium, etc. The richest area is considered to be the southern part of the country, since there are oil and gas in the shelf of the Gulf of Mexico. The reserves of minerals in Mexico are many, so their extraction will be carried out for more than one hundred years.

Of course, not everything is as smooth as it seems at first glance. There are many rivers in Mexico, but almost all of them are near the coast, so in the center of the country the population is experiencing a large water deficit, which, naturally, affects the development of agriculture. However, with this problem the local population has long learned to cope.

Overview of the country's economy

Mexico occupies one of the first places in economic development among the countries of Latin America. Naturally, Mexico's successful geographical position plays an important role in this, because it borders on the United States, which invests huge amounts of money in its industry. The country is considered to be the largest exporter of silver, after all, the so-called silver belt passes through its territory.

To date, gold, zinc, lead and mercury deposits are also being developed, so Mexico has a huge number of metal processing plants. The country has one of the largest oil refineries, and throughout the entire pipeline system, which supplies black gold and gas to the United States. Naturally, if there is oil, then there are factories for its processing, which provides local residents with permanent work, and the government has fewer problems with the employment of citizens.

The economic and geographical position of Mexico gives it the opportunity to take a leading role in the industry of Latin America. The developed infrastructure and a large labor market cause the presence in the country of a huge number of different plants, for example, those that produce agricultural machinery, electrical goods. There are also metallurgical enterprises and factories for assembling cars.

Main industrial and agricultural areas

The whole territory of the country can be divided into three industrial regions:

  1. The first is on the coast of the Gulf of Mexico and at the foot of the mountains. Here grow coffee, sugar cane, bananas, papayas and other tropical fruits. Also, cocoa beans are harvested, which are then sent to the domestic market.
  2. The second area stretches along the Pacific coast. They grow cotton and wheat, which is quite enough to provide the entire population of the country.
  3. The central district is famous for the production of vegetables, such as tomatoes or salad. Still here grow cereals, peanuts, strawberries and legumes. Many vegetables are then exported to other countries.

Northern Mexico is famous for its developed livestock breeding. It is often fed cattle, then to overtake it in the US.

Industry of the country

The favorable geographical position of Mexico allows it to actively develop and constantly achieve high rates. There is an automobile industry working in accordance with world standards. The factories collect cars, buses and trucks. In addition, many well-known automobile companies order unique spare parts, which are produced only here.

Mexico has the largest cement plant in the world. There are also quite a few companies that produce alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages, for example, beer and all the famous Coca-Cola. Great success was achieved by the Mexicans in the food industry. The country already has trade marks that have been recognized in the world.

The industries for the production of spare parts for aircraft are constantly developing, which are acquired by many well-known airlines.

Features of agriculture

Half of the population is involved in agriculture, which is facilitated by the geographical position of Mexico, because there are many fertile soils. Mexicans have even developed their own land treatment system. Where the climate allows, they grow wheat, barley and even rice. Fruits and vegetables are exported. The most popular are tomatoes, oranges and coffee, as well as some exotic fruits.

With the access to the sea and the ocean, fishing for commercial purposes is developing. To date, the products of the fishing industry are also exported to other countries, only half of it is used by the Mexicans themselves.

Development of forestry

The economic and geographical position of Mexico allows us to supply timber to neighboring states. Previously, it was mainly fuel, but to date the situation has changed somewhat. In addition to pine, in the country grows a huge number of trees of other valuable species, for example, oak and red cedar. Mexico is famous for its bitumen and charcoal.

Transport

The geographical position of the country of Mexico initially did not have a very favorable effect on the creation of transport links, but all because of its specific terrain features. But with the advent of new technologies in the transport sector, this problem was solved.

First of all, the most important economic areas of the country were connected with highways. In addition, the roads were paved to the border with the United States. Of course, today the main transport hub of the country is Mexico. It connects all districts with the capital of the state.

For the closer development of economic ties, it was necessary to build 26,623 km of railroad. And this task was successfully accomplished, despite the fact that the geographical position of Mexico made it more difficult.

Today in the country's capital, Mexico City, there is even a subway, and the public transport system is at a high level compared to other countries, including even Canada. If you add the length of all the roads, they will pour into a large figure, which is approximately 247 450 km.

The geographical position of Mexico and Canada allows their residents to travel to neighboring countries not only by bus or car. You can also use an airplane or train. In Mexico, there are two big airlines that provide flights not only to the US, but also to Europe. Travel to another country is also possible, using the sea transport, sailing from the Mexican ports.

Comparative characteristics

The economic and geographical situation of Mexico and Canada is different. Below are not only the main differences, but also the similarities between the two countries:

  1. Mexico and Canada border on the US, which allows them to export their products without problems. However, the favorable position of the countries does not end there. Both of them also have access to the sea. If Mexico has an outlet to the Pacific and the Atlantic through the Caribbean, Canada borders on almost three oceans: the Arctic, the Pacific and the Atlantic.
  2. To find out which country is in more favorable conditions, compare the physical and geographical position of Mexico and Canada. The answer will be obvious. The Canadian shield does not allow adverse climatic conditions to affect vegetation, therefore agriculture is more developed here than in Mexico. In most of Canada, there are minerals, which means that industry is as well developed here as in Mexico. In addition, Canada's temperate climate and fertile soils favor the development of agriculture in the country.
  3. As for the natural and resource potential, in this area both states are practically on the same level. Of course, the amount of minerals extracted in them is different, however, both countries receive almost the same income from them. If in Mexico the extraction of oil, non-ferrous metals and iron is developed, then in Canada coal, uranium, and natural gas are extracted more. And yet, given the economic and geographical situation of Mexico and Canada, we can say that both countries are sufficiently provided with water and forest resources.
  4. Mexico is considered a densely populated state. In comparison with Canada, more people live here, which directly affects the number of labor resources in the country. At the same time, Canada lacks the labor force.
  5. As for the economic side, in most cases GDP in both countries is approximately at the same level. However, given the difference in population, it must be recognized that in Canada, GDP per person will be significantly higher than in Mexico.
  6. Both these countries are considered developed, especially as regards industry, agriculture, and services. Nevertheless, due to the fact that Canada's labor productivity is higher, this country is actually getting richer than Mexico.

Recently, there has been a marked rivalry between the two states. As Mexico and Canada border on the US, both countries are trying to take the most advantageous positions in trading with a promising neighbor.

To become an economically developed country, Mexico had to work hard. To date, the country's population has the opportunity to find its business in various industries: industrial production, agriculture, construction, services and tourism.

The ultimate goal of Mexico is to become a country where there is no clearly defined border between the poor and the rich. Thanks to the resources available on the territory of the country and their proper use, it can be said that the Mexicans are close to realizing their goal.

Many experts say that in the near future the level of development of the country will reach unprecedented heights, as the deposits of minerals on its territory are really huge. Themselves, Mexicans know how to properly use them with benefits for themselves. In addition, agriculture is also actively developing in recent years.
