Temperature after childbirth. Complications after childbirth in women

The appearance of a baby is an important process, during which a woman must be under the strict supervision of doctors. However, after giving birth, the mother should also not remain alone. After all, in the first time after this, there may be a variety of complications that are easier to prevent than to deal with them later. What are the reasons for the fever after delivery and what does it indicate? This is exactly what I want to talk about right now.

What happens after giving birth?

Initially, it should be noted that even if the process itself was well and without complications, this is not a reason to relax. After all the most important are also the first 24 hours after the birth of a baby. At this time, many different problems can arise. And one of them is the temperature after childbirth. So, in the first couple of days, doctors closely monitor the health of not only the baby, but also the mothers. Periodically, doctors check the degree of contraction of the uterus, the state of the breast, inspect and clarify the nature of the discharge. If there were stitches, they are periodically processed periodically. And, of course, the temperature of the body is measured at least three times a day. After all, this is the most important indicator that can signal a problem in time. Even the speed and nature of the temperature increase can already be pre-diagnosed.

About the norm and deviations

What is it, the normal temperature after childbirth? The same as in a healthy person, 36.6-37 ° C. However, it is also necessary to take into account the characteristics of each individual organism. After all, there are people who have a stable normal temperature of 37 ° C, and for someone this is a serious indicator of problems.

However, situations when the body temperature can rise, do not always indicate the appearance of complications:

  1. If there is a single increase in body temperature in the first couple of hours after childbirth (but not above 37.5 ° C).
  2. If there is an increase in body temperature about 2-5 days after the birth process (not above 38 ° C). A change in indicators will be associated with problems with the mammary glands.
  3. If periodic temperature fluctuations of the body (not above 38 ° C) associated with the inflow of milk are seen.

In other cases, the temperature after childbirth may indicate various complications. It is worth remembering that recovery in the postpartum period lasts approximately 5-8 weeks. Also during this time the young mother needs to closely monitor changes in health and body temperature.

Causes of a slight increase in temperature

It happens that a woman has a temperature of 37 ° C for some time after giving birth. If the lady does not suffer at all, and this condition itself does not bring any discomfort, do not worry. After all, such a slight increase in indicators can occur due to the following natural causes:

  • Hormonal splash, which the body experiences immediately after childbirth.
  • Stressful condition, which often occurs after the experience.
  • The arrival of breast milk. This process is almost always accompanied by an increase in temperature, which gradually decreases.
  • By raising the temperature, the body can also react to the large loss of fluid that a woman experiences during the postpartum period.

Mastitis

If the lady has a fever after a certain time after delivery, this may indicate a disease such as mastitis. It, by the way, is very common among young mothers. So, it is worth noting that mastitis is a pathology of breast tissue. It is caused by various microbes and bacteria, as well as other pathogens that enter the chest through cracks in the nipple and are transported with blood flow. The main symptomatology in this case:

  • Increase in body temperature (up to 38-39 ° C).
  • Chills.
  • Headache.
  • And, of course, pain in the chest.

Also it must be remembered that the breast in this case will be slightly swollen, the skin may turn red. The normal current of milk is also disturbed. Cope with the problem can be with antibiotics, but in some, the most severe cases, you may need surgery.

Metroendometritis

Complications after childbirth in women can also cause inflammation of the uterine mucosa. It occurs in the case of accumulation in the body of the parturient women of discharge, clotting with a blood clot of the cervix, delay of the placenta particle, with the aggravation of the old disease. In this case, the temperature occurs about 2-4 days after delivery, is kept at about 39 ° C. In this case, the woman also feels chills, loss of appetite, sleep disturbances. When palpation in the lower abdomen, pain is felt. The nature of the discharge changes: they become cloudy, do not smell badly, their quantity can increase substantially or decrease. You can cope with the problem with antibiotics. Sometimes you need to wash the uterus.

Lactostasis

If the woman after the fever has a fever, this may be evidence of a pathology such as lactostasis (affects the ladies' breasts). During her illness, milk stagnation occurs in the chest. The reasons for the problem are rather trivial: skipping one or a couple of feedings. But at the same time, lactostasis can also occur with blockage of the milk ducts, uneven straining, as well as overheating or supercooling of the breast. The temperature does not exceed 39 ° С. Symptoms disappear almost immediately after the emptying of the breast. If you do not struggle with this problem, it can develop into mastitis.

Other problems

If a woman has a fever after giving birth to 38 ° C, this may indicate one of the following diseases:

  1. Thrombophlebitis . In this case, the woman's veins become inflamed, which leads to their clogging with blood clots. It is worth noting that this disease provokes metroendometrit, described above. The parameters of body temperature can rise two weeks to a month after the birth of a baby. This phenomenon is accompanied by a chill, as well as swelling of the legs.
  2. Pelveoperitonitis . This is inflammation in the small pelvis of the abdominal wall. The temperature can rise up to 41-42 ° C. Other symptoms: nausea, vomiting, severe pain in the uterus, chills. A woman's condition worsens dramatically.
  3. Parametrite . It is inflammation around the uterus of fatty tissue. The temperature can also rise to about 40 ° C. There is a chill, nausea, vomiting, painful sensations during defecation and urination.

In any case, it must be remembered that with the slightest doubt, it is best to seek medical help immediately. After all, if you find the problem before, you can deal with it in a shorter period.
