Sports complex "Olympic" in Moscow: address, location on the map and the scheme

The legendary sports complex "Olimpiyskiy" was erected specially for carrying out competitions and other entertainment events within the framework of the famous Moscow Olympics, which took place in 1980. And today important sports competitions and shows of domestic and foreign stars are organized there.

A bit of history

At the beginning of the 20th century, on the site where the Olimpiysky Sports Complex is located today, the Union Stadium was located, where the Muscovites made their first attempts to learn a new game for themselves in the foot ball. In the Soviet period, this sport object was renamed repeatedly. In particular, at first it was called the "Stadium of the Authorized Servicemen", then - "The Stadium of the Profintern" and, finally, the "Burevestnik". Construction of the "Olympic", which was to become the largest at that time sports complex in the world, was started in 1977. The authorship of this grandiose project belonged to a large team of architects, led by M. Posokhin. By the way, for his magnificent work in 1982, he, together with the architect B. Thor, was awarded one of the highest awards of the USSR - the Lenin Prize. To build the sports complex "Olympic", in addition to the territory of the "Burevestnik" for construction, the areas where the buildings of the factory "Voskhod" and the Experimental Chemical-Metallurgical Plant were located, as well as residential houses located in the alleys of Topolev, Vypolzova and Samara. Construction lasted only three years, which is not much, considering the scale of the construction, and the official opening date coincided with the inauguration ceremony of the 1980 Olympics.

Description

Sports complex "Olympic" in Moscow consists of a covered oval building and another one, where there are swimming pools.

In the main building are located:

  • The central arena measuring 126 by 90 meters and a height of 24 meters and stands for 35,000 spectators;
  • Ice ground for training;
  • Sports gym;
  • The rehabilitation center;
  • Game room for team sports;
  • Large and small halls of choreography and a gym.

The main stadium is protected from above by a 6 mm thick membrane roof. Its arena is adapted to be used for a variety of purposes. In particular, it can be fitted with a synthetic carpet for turning into a concert hall, a recotorted treadmill or an artificial ice field. In addition, the main arena is easily transformed into separate sites. For this, a gigantic soundproof partition, mounted from 26 panels, is used. It is assembled in just 2.5 hours and, by dividing the arena into 2 parts, allows two simultaneous events.

The "Olympic" sports complex (Moscow) occupies the territory bounded by the Olympic Avenue and the streets of Shchepkin, Durov and Samara. In the center of the main building there is a stadium, and behind its northern tribune there are (from east to west) the Small and Large choreographic halls, the Aerobics hall and the Ice center. From the side of the Olympic Avenue, after passing Park N2 and turning to the right, you can get to the press center. If you continue to move from this place so that the oval building is on the left, you can get to the conference room.

"Olympic" sports complex: concerts

The team of architects headed by M. Posokhin created a multifunctional building. Therefore, in the "Olympic" in November 1982, the first concerts took place, in which Alla Pugacheva took part in the number of other artists. During the years of the complex's existence, many stars of the world variety performed as well, such as Adriano Celentano, Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Status Quo, Patricia Kaas, Depeche Mode, Bjork, Rammstein, Ricky Martin, George Michael, Enrique Iglesias, Christina Aguilera, Elton John, Whitney Houston, Eros Ramazzotti, Shakira, Paul McCartney.

Concert program for 2014

At events in the JCC "Olympic" is almost always sold out. To give an idea of the richness of the annual concert program, it suffices to say that, for example, during 2014 the following concerts were already held:

  • 30 Seconds To Mars - March 16;
  • Justin Timberlake (first concert in Russia) - May 17;
  • Black Sabbath - June 1;
  • Linkin Park - June 2;
  • "The Muz-TV Award" for 2014 - on June 6;
  • Armin Van Buuren -27 September.

As for the upcoming events, until the end of 2014 the sports complex "Olympic" invites viewers to:

  • Concert "Eehh, Razgulay!" - 15th of November;
  • Creative evening of composer I. Krutoy - November 22;
  • Show program "Disco 80" - November 29;
  • Concert of the festival "Song of the Year" - December 6;
  • Concert "Legends Retro FM" - December 13;
  • Concert of the band "SPLIN" - December 20.

This is only part of the fact that in 2014, the Olympic Sports Complex offers Muscovites and tourists. In addition, from the end of December until January 11, 2015, it will be possible to become a spectator at the concerts of the show "Ice Age".
