Snake on the racetrack - how to do it correctly

To the beginning driver, who only just joins the car brotherhood, his own car seems like a small toy with dimensions limited by the dimensions of the driver's seat. Hence the occurrence of incidents during maneuvering. Only here comes a belated understanding of what the snake was doing on the circuit.
In principle, the circuit will not have the experience of maneuvering in a crazy city stream. However, he will give the necessary elements of ownership of the machine. Going around chips and posts, many young motorists ironically grin, considering it a children's play of instructors. In fact, driving on the racetrack, under the guidance of an experienced mentor, allows the trainee to at least approximately determine the trajectory of the car's wheels on the bend, how much one "carves" this or that angle of the car when performing a complex maneuver. And also - when and how much to rotate the steering wheel so that the car smoothly bypassed the obstacle.

So why so carefully exercise the snake exercise on the circuit? This exercise is aimed at developing a certain skill in performing complex maneuvering. Having mastered the driver's snake, overtaking and rebuilding will not be accompanied by a panic fear to hook on a nearby car.

How is the snake on the racetrack

First of all, it should be noted that for this exercise, an even area is chosen. On the site marking is done. Six pieces are installed. The task is to drive between them in a zigzag, not touching any one. The first chip is the starting chip, the last one is the finish one. The distance between them is about 1.5 meters.

Snake on the circuit is performed in the following sequence. The engine starts and the machine smoothly starts moving in a straight line. After the start of the movement, squeeze the clutch pedal. Next, the car will move by inertia. As soon as the first chip is leveled with the middle of the left front door, the steering wheel should be made one turn to the left. The machine passes the chip at an angle of 45 °.
Now you need to go round the second chip. The car continues to move. As soon as it has leveled with the middle of the now right front door, the steering wheel should be turned two turns to the right. The clutch pedal is squeezed into the floor. The clutch is released after the turn. However, there is no need to put pressure on "gas." The machine will move with the gear engaged at a low speed. This is quite enough. Also pass the remaining chips to the finish. At the finish line, the car is returned to a straight trajectory. All! The snake exercise is passed!

To consolidate the result and refine the procedure for complex maneuvering, the exercise should preferably be repeated several times. Better yet, work out to automatism. The main mistake in performing a snake is hitting the rear wheel with a chip. To avoid this, you should carefully monitor the chip and start the maneuver not before it "passes" the front wing. The steering wheel should be turned without jerking and until it stops.

Snake on the circuit must be performed throughout the entire period of training driving. This is the only way to acquire maneuvering skills at the time of obtaining a driving license. To study in a dense urban stream is not the best option. Therefore, the driver must be prepared for "street driving".
