Sights of Red Village

The history of the famous village near St. Petersburg dates back three centuries. At the behest of Peter the Great in 1714, the construction of a paper mill (or, as it was then called, a mill) began here. It was repeatedly transformed. However, this institution is still working today as Krasnogorodskaya experimental paper mill. Workers for the production of the great Peter wrote out from the Moscow region near Krasnoe Selo. What kind of settlement?

The effect was not spoiled even by the fact that during the tests, the wing fell off the apparatus. At the turn of the century in the summer military capital, the first in Russia passed auto and motorcycle racing. Athletes of that time at a speed raised their units uphill. Here the reigning people in the 13th and 14th years of the last century demonstrated "Russian Knight" and "Ilya Muromets", planes created by the designer Sikorsky. Here, often, officers' jumps were held, which representatives of the imperial court liked to visit. The local hippodrome was described by Leo Tolstoy in the immortal novel "Anna Karenina."

Park "Krasnoe Selo" and today is visited by thousands of tourists. But the general architectural appearance of the settlement began to change. In the middle of the nineteenth century, an open regular rail service with St. Petersburg was opened.

The village became the town after the Great October Revolution, in 1918, and membership in the Leningrad region was established seven years later.

During the Great Patriotic War, Krasnoe Selo was occupied by German troops. The city was liberated in January 1944.

A tourist route

Today it is one of the most popular historical places in the Leningrad Region. Tourists from all over the world come here every year. Architectural monuments have glorified Krasnoye Selo. The sights are in walking distance, their description is in every historical reference book.

In the compulsory route of tourists - the Church of the Holy Trinity. The temple, which was consecrated as far back as 1735, was closed at the end of the thirties of the twentieth century. In 1941, after the city was occupied by the Nazis, the German command opened the church for worship services. In the modern history again began to operate the Svyatotroitsky Temple in 1995. Now here are daily services and liturgies on weekends and on public holidays.

The Church of Alexander Nevsky was built under the Krasnoselsky hospital in the sixties of the nineteenth century. Then it was completely rebuilt, and after the Great Patriotic War it was the only church not destroyed in the city. The temple remains active today.

Famous monuments

From the monuments to the sights can be attributed to the monuments of the Sorrowful Mother, the prisoners of Nazism, the designer Mozhaisky, the Eternal Flame. In 2011, Lake Bezymyannoe, located within the city, was recognized as the cleanest among the rest in St. Petersburg. And one more attractive place for tourists is the "Bridges" - a museum that is a branch of the central railway.

Krasnoye Selo is from the northern capital only thirty kilometers to forty. Therefore, to get from St. Petersburg to the city can be quite quickly - for an hour and a half. Or you can stay here for a rest period. Tourists are waiting for the hotel in Krasnoye Selo.
