Roof overhang: preparation, material selection and process

To make the roof complete, you need to not only mount the roofing materials, but also make a filing of its hanging parts (eaves). Preparatory work for this begin at the stage of installation of rafters: the ends of the rafters need to be filed in one line. Pay attention not only to the length of the outstanding section of the rafters, but also to the angle of the saw: it must be parallel to the wall.

Soffit - a kind of plastic panels, designed specifically for filing roofs. It has a large thickness in comparison with siding and a special perforation, which is necessary for ventilation. Soffit is mounted perpendicular to the plane of the roof. Other options are not provided for by technology.

It is a popular filing of roof overhangs by lining. When using a wooden lining, it should be chosen carefully: the wood should not have too low humidity, and the lining must be sufficiently thick (not less than 5-7 mm). PVC lining is the most economical option. Choose waterproof types and do not forget about plastic corners, which are necessary for processing joints.

The order of filing overhangs

To the pre-sawn rafters from below and from the ends fill the guides (boards). Also, a board is fixed on the wall, to which the end of the laths of the binder will be fastened. If the roof protrudes beyond the wall by more than 40 cm, another intermediate guide is needed, otherwise there will be a slack in the slats, and it is also possible that the binder is damaged in strong winds.
