Rocks of Dovbush (Ivano-Frankivsk region): how to get there, description

Dovbush rocks are an interesting tourist attraction. This is not only a curiosity of nature, but an ancient paleo-observatory. People lived here, which is confirmed by vertically carved walls of caves, steps. Used unapproachable rocks and as a place of defense from enemies. Its current name was given to mountain formations on behalf of the Oleksa Dovbush sprinkler. Who is this and what he became famous for, we will also tell in our article. But it should be noted that this figure of the eighteenth century has visited many places and left a mark in human memory as a people's avenger. That is why the places called "Dovbush Rock" in Western Ukraine are three: two are in the Ivano-Frankivsk region (in the village of Bubnische and the town of Yaremche), and one in Chernivtsi. A real attraction, which has every right to be so called, is the first on the list. In Yaremche begins the trail Dovbush, which, however, also leads through rock formations. And in the Chernivtsi region there is the Dovbush Cave (also in the mountains), where, according to legend, he hid his wealth. But in this article we will tell you about those rocks of Dovbush, which are located near the village of Bubnishche.

Sights of the Carpathian region

The nature of Western Ukraine is very beautiful. Lakes of Volhynia, historical monuments of Lviv, Lutsk and Chernivtsi, castles and monasteries of Halychyna, Transcarpathia, Bukovina and Pokuttya all attract many tourists to the region. Ukrainian Carpathians are divided into ranges, the main and highest of which is the Montenegrin. In its composition Hoverla (2061 m), Petros (2020 m), Brebeneskul and other significant peaks. Tourists are attracted by the mountain Pop Ivan, on top of which are the ruins of the Polish observatory "White Elephant". People inhabited the Carpathians of the people: beetles, Hutsuls, Lemkis. In the villages of the Verkhovyna ridge still live Malfar - all revered sorcerers. In the Carpathians there are several ski resorts. The most famous, meeting the European standards, is Bukovel. The real gem of the region is called Sinevir lake. On the two sides of the mountains - in the Lviv and Transcarpathian regions - balneological resorts (Truskavets, Morshin, Shayan, Kvass) operate.

Where are the rocks

The remains are located in Skole Beskydy, a ridge that enters the Carpathian Mountains. Dovbush rocks look like islands in the midst of the endless green sea of forests. They are located on the border of Lviv and Ivano-Frankivsk regions. More precise address: Bolekhivsky district, Bubnishche village, Vydrina tract. Administrative object belongs to Ivano-Frankivsk region. The cliffs are located on the territory of Polyanitsky Regional Park. Therefore, if you approach from Bubnischa, the entrance will be paid. It is better to choose a weekday for the excursion. After all, to the rocks, which are also called Ukrainian sphinxes, many tourists come on weekends. Children's sports and patriotic education "Plast" (analogue of scouts) conducts orienteering competitions here. Such popularity of Dovbush rocks is good because a lonely tourist here can not be lost. A good trail leads to the sights, marked by a yellow paint.

Who is Dovbush?

He is called Carpathian Robin Hood. Since the fifteenth century, feudal lords have begun to enslave the population of the Carpathians. Wishing to remain free and protesting serfdom, many young people went to mountain forests and formed partisan detachments. Such rebels were called opryshkas. They robbed estates, burned documents for land and debt receipts of peasants. Legends say that the excessive wealth of feudal lords handed out to the poor and destitute. Such detachments existed throughout the Carpathian region - in Galicia, Pokut'e, Bukovina, and Red Russia. Special movement of the springs reached the eighteenth century, when it was headed by Olexa (Alexei) Dovbush. He was born around 1700 in the village of Pechenezine, in a poor Hutsul family. In childhood he was dumb. The gift of speech was given to him by the malfar (sorcerer) Yosyp Obvious. Already in his youth, Dovbush led the movement of sprinkles, which swept the whole region - on either side of the Carpathians. Olexa acted with his brother Ivan. Confiscated from the magnates good, they gave out to the poor. Oleksa was treacherously killed by Stepan Dzvinchuk, a resident of the village of Kosmachi. Judas, except for the reward, which the Polish noblemen promised for the head of Dovbush, bore on money, which under Oleksa was not there. Opryshke was left to live in the people's memory. There are many stories and legends about the local Robin Hood. His name also includes the rocks of Dovbush, although there is no documented evidence that the larvae were hiding here.

Geological monument of nature

Once upon a time there was a shallow Paleogene sea. Seventy million years ago, the continental plates began to rise. Over time, the former bottom ascended to a height of six hundred and seventy meters above the level of the modern World Ocean. Soft rocks were gradually washed out by rain, until a group of rocky remnants formed, which is named after Oleksa Dovbush in toponymy. They are composed of compacted sandstone. Rocky outcrops reach a height of eighty meters. A stone labyrinth 200 m wide extends from the beech-fir forest from west to east for almost one kilometer.

Historical monument

Ivano-Frankivsk region is rich in sights. But the cave rock complex is able to compete in popularity with Mount Goverla (the highest point of Ukraine), the ski resort Bukovel and Maniavsky skete. In addition to an interesting natural monument, these remains are also a historical landmark. Traces of the constant presence of people here refer to the sixth or seventh centuries of our era. The fact that the caves in the sandstone are man-made, leaves no doubt. Perhaps they were hollowed out by white Croats. The ancient settlement is covered with rocks on three sides, and with the fourth it is enclosed by a rampart and a moat. The walls of the caves are covered with solar signs. In some rocks the steps have been cut. Near the settlement there is a burial mound. To revive tourism in Ukraine, the government is thinking of restoring the famous historical complex.

Rocks: Description

These are stony posts that are scattered over a fairly large area. Since the slopes of these rocks are steep, and their average height is 40 meters, a natural landmark is very popular among climbers. The categories of the local trails range from 5c to 8a +. If you approach the complex from the village of Bubnische, then Odinets is the first rock suitable for bouldering. Then the road leads to the main massif, called the Osnovnyak. A little lower along the road are the Witch and the Tulip, then the Nameless, the Golets, the Armor and the Horse. They often go on a climbing competition. Broken down routes under the lower insurance for almost all the remains. In addition, there is an opportunity for climbing with the top rope and boldring. Beginner climbers can be trained on not too high remnants, such as Austrian, Lyalka, Shurshun, Golets and Kolobok. If you walk a quarter of an hour through the forest, you can see another rock - the Cross. The remains are equipped with nameplates, the climbing tracks are equipped with pegs.

Caves

But not only climbers are attracted to this natural and historical landmark. Mountain tourism in Ukraine is quite developed. Many visitors come here to inspect the cave complex. Naturally, speleologists here have nothing to do. After all, these are not caves in the strict sense of the word, but grottoes hollowed out in sandstone. For centuries, people lived here. Traces of pagan temples, ancient fortifications, and later fortresses were preserved. What should you see the tourist? First, the Great and Lesser Caves. Between them lies a very narrow gorge. Next to Malaya there is the Cave-Stables. If you go a little farther, you can see a well dug in a rock six meters deep. Now it does not reach the aquifer. In the rock opposite the ancient people, the steps are cut through. It is worth to walk in the woods, among beeches, hornbeams and evergreen fir (smerichk), drink the purest water from a mountain spring.

Dovbush Trail

One can not ignore another attraction, which bears the name of a glorious peak. It is located in the southern vicinity of the town of Yaremche in the Ivano-Frankivsk region. To get off the trail, you need to pass or drive along the main road to Uzhgorod two kilometers. On the right, at the entrance to the railway tunnel, there is a rounded Dovbush stone with a cross at the top. And on the left begins a trail. There is a parking lot and a ticket office for entering the territory of the Carpathian National Nature Park. Mountain tourism in Ukraine, as already mentioned, is very developed, so the trail of Dovbush is never empty. Moreover, this route is uncomplicated, even for children and pensioners. The length of the trail is five kilometers one way. The difference in altitude is only one hundred and seventy meters.

Interestingly, in fact there are two paths. One, laid as early as 1902, is light and short. The second is for lovers of climbing the rocks. The path winds between the bizarre shape of stone boulders. It passes under the underside of the Toad and leads to the cave and Dovbush rock. From this point you can return or continue the way further - to the top of Makovica.
