Windows 7: Not Installing Updates

Surely everyone knows that the installed operating system updates not only expand its capabilities, but also improve security. From time to time, there are situations when Windows 7 does not install updates. There are a lot of ways to eliminate this trouble. The most effective will be discussed in the article.

Fixit

If Windows 7 updates are no longer installed, the very first tool to use is Fixit. This program is released specifically for solving such problems by Microsoft, therefore, it can be downloaded from the official site for free. After downloading, the application needs to be started and installed, like any other.

When the installation is completed, you can try to update the OS, but it is advisable to reboot first. No other user intervention is required, the application will perform a search and will solve all the problems automatically.

Manual installation

If Fixit has finished, but you still do not have the updates installed, you will have to perform a manual configuration. This method is also good because it does not require searching for the necessary utility on the Internet.

Go to the "Start" - "Control Panel" - "System and Security". Click the "Windows Update Center" link. In the left pane of the window, a menu appears, in which you need to select the item "Search for updates". After a short wait, the "Install Now" button, which is not available earlier, appears on the right side.

Automatic installation

If you do not manually install updates in Windows 7, you can try to configure the installation on a schedule. To do this, select "Settings" in the "Update Center" window. Under "Important updates", set the selector to "Set automatically" and specify the time when the system should perform this procedure.

Viruses and antiviruses

Malware can cause Windows 7 not to install updates. Even if the system already has an antivirus installed, try to check the computer with the distribution kit, which is installed on the boot drive.

Sometimes just the availability of programs that increase OS security can create a problem for updates. Try disabling the antivirus or firewall. However, before disconnecting, it is best to check the computer for viruses by an external program.

Errors 8024402f, 80244016, c80003fa

They usually occur if the computer is not connected to the Internet or if the connection is not stable enough. If the Internet is fine, you can use Fixit to solve the problem. If it does not help, try disabling firewalls and antivirus software. Often it is because of them that messages with the specified errors appear during the update.

The obvious is not always noticeable

If you tried all the methods, but still do not install updates on Windows 7, check the amount of free space on the system disk.

As trivial as advice, users often forget to monitor free space. And it decreases all the time, if you do not regularly clean the disks, because new recovery points, update cache and browsers are constantly growing in volumes. Do not forget that for stable operation of the system, Microsoft recommends that you always have 2-5 GB of free capacity on the C drive.

If the OS distribution is downloaded from a pirated site, the computer should be started with the installation of the official version of Windows. Very often in the third-party assemblies, functionality is cut, services and components are disabled, and changes are made to the registry. Initially, this all seems not too important, but after a while there are pitfalls.

If there is no internet

Sometimes there is no Internet on the computer and it is not possible to connect it. Someone decides that in this case it will not be possible to update the OS, but there is a way, though, you still have to find a computer that will have access to the World Wide Web with already installed updates. In this case, you need to know where the Windows 7 updates are installed.

Go to the directory C: \ Windows \ SoftwareDistribution \ Download. Here they are downloaded. From the computer on which the updates are installed, copy all the files from this directory to the PC that does not have the Internet. Then reboot and go to the "Update Center". After clicking the "Install updates" button, they are successfully installed. Do not hold high hopes, the OS will not be fully updated, because some components are downloaded separately for different hardware.

Also knowing about this directory will be useful in order to save updates. If Windows breaks and needs to be reinstalled, you will not have to download updates again. Among other things, the number of files in the folder is constantly increasing. A year of work can accumulate a few gigabytes. Files from the directory can be safely deleted to clear the disk space. It will not lead to malfunctions.

If the operating system is not installed on drive C, then look for this directory in the partition where Windows is located.

Low download speed

From time to time, everyone faces a situation where updates are installed for a long time. Windows 7 several hours shows the same window, but the status bar is filled slowly. In this case, check the speed of your Internet or the speed of writing data to the hard disk. Any equipment fails in time, and HDD is no exception.

If you have just installed Windows or have not previously applied any updates, it's likely that a long installation time is associated with a large amount of installation files. For several years of updates can accumulate a few gigabytes, and the distribution of the OS is usually delivered in its original form.
