Lake Synevyr - "the pearl of the Carpathians"

Lake Synevyr, whose photo is located below, is the largest mountain reservoir in Ukraine. It is unique in its beauty and fascinates with mystery. On all sides this lake is surrounded by ridges and massifs, in connection with which it is often called the "drop of the sea among the mountains". And this is not the only epithet. Local residents also use other names - "pearl of the Carpathians", "sea eye", "lake of lovers". Each of them in its own way reflects the essence and legends associated with this amazing creation of nature.

Location

Located within the mountains with the name of the Carpathians, Lake Synevyr formed in the postglacial period at an altitude of 987 meters above sea level. It was the result of a blockage in the Intermountain region of the Transcarpathian region. Not far away is a small village of Sinevirskaya Polyana, which is located in the gorge formed by the Slenizir and Ozernaya mountains, as well as the spur of the Ridges.

general description

The total area of the reservoir is about seven hectares. The average depth here is 16 meters, while its maximum rate is 24 meters. Lake Synevyr eats at the expense of surface water and precipitation. And from it flows a small stream. There is also an island in its territory, which is in the central part. You can see it only in the summer and only if there is a small amount of precipitation. When he appears, from the height it all resembles an eye with a pupil (island) and eyelashes (forests). The water in the lake is very clear and clean, therefore, as a rule, the bottom is seen through it. It has a constant temperature of 11 degrees. Water vegetation here actively develops only within the coastal strip. The banks themselves are covered with dense forests. In the high mountain meadows, which have not yet been touched by civilization, near the water body, there are about a hundred different species of endangered and rare plants. As for the local fauna, its representatives are separate species of microscopic crustaceans, trout also occurs.

Legends

According to the local legend, Lake Synevyr appeared due to the great love that forever united the souls of a simple shepherd named Vir and the daughter of a count who was called Xin. Believe it says that the girl's father was categorically against such an alliance, so he ordered his servants to throw a big stone at the guy. Upon learning of the death of her lover, Xin ran to the place of the tragedy, hugged the guy, cried for days and nights. This continued until the reservoir formed from the tears carried it to its depths. About this sad history in our time is reminiscent of a sculpture made by Transcarpathian mahogany masters in 1983. It is for this reason that Synevir is commonly called the "Lake of Lovers". A small islet in the center of the reservoir, which was mentioned earlier, is considered the place where Vir was killed.

National Park

In 1974, the government of the USSR decided to protect such a unique natural site as Lake Sinevir. As a result, a landscape reserve was established, which was granted the status of a natural national park in 1989. Currently, its area is more than forty thousand hectares, while six thousand of them are a protected area. Nowadays, the natural national park "Sinevir" is not only a famous lake. It also includes other attractions, including the Dikoe Lake, the Glukhanya Marsh and many other interesting places. Separate words deserve a museum of timber floating located on the territory of the park - the only hydrotechnical structure of this kind built on the water. In general, each of the corners of the park is a real picturesque picture, which opens before the eyes of the traveler.
