Bulgarian pepper - seedlings

Seedling of Bulgarian pepper is traditionally grown:

  • In room conditions;
  • In hotbeds;
  • In the greenhouse.

In this article, you will learn how to plant pepper seedlings and grow viable open-ground plants under the constrained conditions.

When growing in a room environment, pepper seedlings are preferable to be located at the windows facing the south, south-east or south-west side. However, in short winter and spring days, pepper, whose seedling does not receive the proper amount of light, also requires additional artificial lighting. The lighting should be carried out in such a way that, in combination with natural light, ensure the total duration of the light day of the plant is not less than 13-14 hours per day. Light sources in this case can be fluorescent lamps of white and daylight, which in its characteristics is certainly close enough to the solar, but radiates much less heat. That is why fluorescent lamps must be placed in close proximity to plants. Experienced by proven, the pepper of Bulgarian peppers needs 120-300 watts per 1 sq. Km. M. The use of incandescent lamps during cultivation is inexpedient, and is due to the fact that these devices strongly heat the air, which can bring irreparable damage to plants. If you decide to still use incandescent lamps in the process of cultivation, experts recommend to hang them over leaves at a height of not less than 50 cm. To achieve uniform illumination is possible by rearranging plants, and by turning them different sides to a light source.

It should be borne in mind that in winter and early spring the air temperature on the windowsill is significantly lower than the overall room temperature. Especially noticeable decrease in temperature at night, when glaciation of the glass contributes to its decrease by 8-10 ° C. To protect pepper bulb seedlings from the negative effects of hypothermia, in frosty nights it is recommended to move plants to the interior of the room. In addition, when airing pepper, seedlings which can suffer, you must either cover with paper, or rearrange. However, in addition to hypothermia on the windowsills, plants can also suffer from overheating, which often occurs near the batteries of the heating system. To avoid exposure to high temperatures, which means - the drying of the soil, experts recommend installing protective screens or shields. These measures will help to delay and divert hot air to the other side of the plants.

Special attention should be given to the issue related to watering pepper seedlings. Water, designed to moisten the soil, must be enriched with oxygen and contain a certain proportion of mineral fertilizers. In addition, pepper, whose seedling also requires a preliminary, no less than five hours settling of water, requires removal of chlorine enriched with useful substances. It is recommended to water it at room temperature, but it is possible to warm it up to 20-22 ° C. Watering with warmed water will not harm seedling pepper Bulgarian, and perhaps even contribute to rapid growth. When growing pepper in the room, the pepper sprouts also need to be fed in two stages with a break between enrichment of the soil in 10-14 days:

1. The first fertilizing should be carried out when the plants already have 1-2 true leaves. To obtain a feed composition, you need:

  • 10 g of urea per 10 liters of water;
  • 50 g of superphosphate;
  • 15 g of potassium salt.

2. The second top dressing is carried out approximately 10 days after the first tillage. In this case, it is recommended to increase the dose of phosphorus for the composition two-fold. Traditionally, for quality soil cultivation 10-12 plants, 1 liter of a feed solution is needed. It is very important immediately after each feeding to water the plant with clean water, otherwise pepper, whose seedlings may suffer from the direct effect of the composition, will die.
