Retrocerebellar cyst. What is it and how to treat it?

A brain cyst is a volumetric neoplasm that has a benign character. This formation is represented in the form of a bubble with a liquid inside. A cyst is located between the tissues in the brain. Experts divide the data of education into two varieties. Thus, there is an arachnoid and intracerebral (retrocerebellar) cyst.

The second type of benign neoplasm is formed in the area of the deceased parts of gray matter. Retrocerebellar cyst is represented by fluid accumulation.

To prevent the progress of the process, it is necessary to establish the cause of the condition. The formation of such intracerebral benign neoplasms is provoked by such factors as: cerebral circulatory insufficiency, stroke, surgical intervention, inflammatory process, trauma. Retrocerebellar cyst develops not on the surface or in the area of the membranes, but directly in the brain substance.

Pathology can develop without any pronounced manifestations or have various non-specific symptoms. The most common signs of the disease should be considered headaches, a feeling of raspiraniya and ripples in the head, nausea, hallucinations, vomiting, convulsions. In addition, probable are disorders of vision and hearing, loss of consciousness of an episodic nature, mental disorders.

Retrocerebellar cyst may increase in size over time. If it continues to grow, it becomes a factor in brain damage.

As a rule, progression of pathology is associated with ongoing processes of circulatory disorders, the formation of new foci of micro-stroke, as well as with multiple sclerosis.

Before the appointment of therapy the patient undergoes the necessary examination. The diagnosis of "retrocerebellar cyst" is specified.

Treatment of this benign neoplasm is possible in any case. It is aimed at eliminating the cause of formation. In the asymptomatic course and the absence of growth of the neoplasm, its neutralization is performed without the use of surgical intervention. In the absence of severe hydrocephalus, therapeutic methods are used. However, the cyst is not eliminated, however, according to some experts, a person can live comfortably with it. In other cases, it may be necessary to use the operational method.

To date, the removal of benign formation in the brain is carried out using the endoscopic method. Its undoubted advantage is the low traumatic nature of the intervention. In addition, after carrying out an endoscopic operation, complications associated with foreign objects are absent, all the effects are carried out under visual control. If there are contraindications to the use of this technique of surgery, a microsurgical operation or shunting is prescribed.

Absolute indications for the appointment of surgical treatment are the development and progression of focal symptoms, the growth of convulsive paroxysm, the formation of an arachnoid cyst complicated by hemorrhages, and other conditions.

It should be noted that in many cases the retrocerebellar cerebral cyst is completely randomized. As well as arachnoid, this education can not manifest itself in any way, but can be revealed in a person aged, for example, twenty years.

Diagnostic measures include laboratory analysis of blood, CT, MRI, as well as blood flow studies in the vascular system of the brain.
