Probably, every motorist faced the problem of a starter fault and a retractor relay, when at the right time the car simply refuses to start. And if you are all right with the electrochain, the battery is charged, there is only one thing left - to look for a breakdown in the starter and in its peripherals. One of them is a retractor relay, which we'll talk about today.

How can I tell if this spare part is faulty?

By the way, you can determine the breakdown of the retractor relay before the starter is removed. For this, the wizard recommends closing the two contact nuts on the back of the appliance. You need to do this with a metal object (for example, you can use any piece of wire). At closing, all voltage will be applied to the winding of the starter. The retractor relay is not affected. In this case, the starter will work without the last detail. This is just talking about her malfunction. Well, if working in the first case the device will only click, then the cause of the failure should be sought in it. The retracting relay will at the same time be in good condition, and it should not be disassembled.

What can cause a breakdown?

One of the most frequent reasons is fatigue of materials, that is, their wear and tear. Also, the relay retractor can break due to the burnt out contact plates that are inside it. And the last frequent cause is the burning of the winding. In all cases, repair and replacement of parts is mandatory (otherwise the machine will never go).

How does the retracting starter relay VAZ 2109-2110 change?

To start, you need to disconnect the terminals from the battery, since this spare part belongs to the list of electrical devices. Then you need to unscrew the nuts that secure the heat shield. This shield also needs to be removed. To do this, you will need a special extension cable to reach the nuts that hold this part with the engine support bracket. The bottom bolt of fastening of a starter should be twisted at the bottom of the machine, after that it is necessary to dismantle all upper nuts.

So we got to the relay. But this work is not completed, because this spare part has not been removed yet. And in order to remove the retractor, remove the connector from the output and unscrew the nuts near them. Next, you need to remove the wire from the starter. After this, using the socket wrench, unscrew the fastening nuts of the relay wire, and also remove all the bolts that attach our tool to the starter.

And the last thing we need to do is to disassemble the relay. In order to get to the retractor, you need to disengage the anchor from the drive and safely remove the broken part. Spare parts are replaced in the same way.

As you can see, despite the rather simple construction of this part, it is rather difficult to remove and re-install it. Therefore, if necessary, mark all dismantled parts and nuts, as well as do not forget about the manual of your VAZ.
