Dnepropetrovsk, Metallurgical Academy of Ukraine: Admissions Committee, specialties, reviews and tuition fees

One of the largest industrial centers of Ukraine for today is Dnepropetrovsk, the Metallurgical Academy of which annually produces a huge number of highly qualified specialists.

History of the University: pre-war stage

The future academy appeared in Dnepropetrovsk in the autumn of 1899, at that time it represented a factory branch of another institution - the Higher Mining College. Since then, NMetAU is the oldest metallurgical university in Ukraine, all other institutions were closed or converted.

In 1912, the Academy changed its legal status and became the Metallurgical Faculty of the Ekaterinoslav Mining Institute. Eighteen years later, working professions became more in demand. And it was decided to form an independent Dnipropetrovsk Metallurgical Institute on the basis of the faculty.

April 17, 1930, the order of the Supreme Economic Council was published, according to which the institute became independent. During the Great Patriotic War, students of the then DMR, in parallel with their studies, worked on the production of parts for the army, many of them volunteered for the front. In the period from 1941 to 1943 the institution operated in Magnitogorsk, after which it was again returned to Dnepropetrovsk.

History of the university after WWII

The popularity of the institute increased several times after the war, many school leavers began to enter this institution. In addition, there was a stream of students wishing to study in the evenings, so in 1959 the evening department of the institute was opened. A few years later it was transformed into a branch, and then into an independent educational institution.

In the 1990s, the status of the institution changed, in 1993 it became the State Academy, and six years later - the National Academy. The institution actively implements world educational practices, since recently NMetAU actively participates in the Bologna process, releasing specialists of international level.

NMetAU today

To date, the Academy trains more than 20,000 students, 200 graduate students and doctoral students. The process takes place under the strict supervision of 1,000 teachers, 15% of whom are professors and have other degrees. Most of the students who plan to get a high-quality education go to Dnepropetrovsk, the Metallurgical Academy of which allows you to find work all over the world.

At the academy 13 scientific schools dealing with the study of metal science are functioning in parallel. Annually NMetAU produces a number of periodicals, the most famous of them are "Technical Thermophysics and Industrial Heat Power Engineering", "Theory and Practice of Metallurgy".

The international cooperation

The National Metallurgical Academy takes an active part in the creation of international projects. Teachers and students of the educational institution are in constant contact with colleagues from Europe and Asia. Annually new projects are opened, aimed at the development of the metallurgical industry.

Employees of NMetAU in 2000 initiated the creation of a consortium of several technical universities, which developed a modern methodology for training specialists in the field of metallurgy. Thus, all students of this Ukrainian academy receive an education similar to the European one, and have the right to internship in organizations located on the territory of the European Union.

Metallurgical Academy (Dnepropetrovsk): faculties

Within the educational institution there are 10 faculties. In addition, he has two branches in Krivoy Rog and Nikopol. Leading among them is the metallurgical faculty. It operates seven departments, where they teach to work with steel, cast iron, metallurgical fuel, reducing agents, chemicals, and metallurgical processes. Here we train specialists who control the safety of employees in the workplace.

The official name of the higher educational institution is the National Metallurgical Academy of Ukraine (NMetAU), previously it was abbreviated as DMetI, DMetAU. The mechanics-machine-building faculty should be considered separately. Students here are engaged in studying graphics, vehicles, technological techniques, as well as various types of mechanics. Electrometallurgical specializes in foundry manufacture, studying of electrotechnical materials, and also coloret.

Among the students, the faculties of computer systems, power engineering and automation, as well as materials science and metal processing are popular. In parallel with this, there are departments of advanced training, retraining of graduates and an uninterrupted form of training at the academy , which enable them to master the specialties all year round and on a convenient schedule.

The 1990s demanded the introduction of new products from the university. Thanks to this, the Faculty of Economics and Management first appeared, and then the Humanities Department. All those who would like to link their future activities with production can come there, but they do not have sufficient knowledge and do not possess exact sciences.

Features of NMetAU

The Metallurgical Academy has its own newspaper, which is distributed free of charge to students of the educational institution. The language of the publication is Ukrainian, the guidance is provided by teachers and academy activists. In 2015 the newspaper will celebrate its 85th anniversary, it is planned to hold a number of festive events.

The institution has student self-government bodies that are active in adapting newcomers, organizing leisure and entertainment, as well as developing the scientific field of knowledge of all students. Despite the turnover of staff within the council itself and the bodies under its control, activists manage to maintain a positive attitude among the students of the academy.

In NMetAU there are free places for training, but to obtain them students need to demonstrate high results. Those who do not succeed will have to rely only on paid seats. The annual cost of training in this case will depend directly on the faculty where the student plans to get an education.

On the full-time department of the bachelor's degree it is cheaper to engage in the economics department, the minimum cost of two semesters there is 4140 hryvnia. The most expensive branch is humanitarian, the cost of getting education is 8,850 hryvnia per year. And the administration of the academy does not exclude the fact that it will only grow.

In the correspondence department the situation is different. The minimum cost of training here is 3220 hryvnia per year, and the maximum - 5000. The most cost here is getting a specialty related to the economic component of the enterprise. And the cheaper thing is to study at the machine-building and metallurgical faculties. The main reason that makes students come to Dnepropetrovsk is the metallurgical academy, and the complexity of the entrance tests does not frighten them.

Training of another type

The annual payment here is 8,280 UAH.

At the correspondence department, it will be more expensive to study students who receive economic and humanitarian education. The maximum cost of education here is almost 5 thousand hryvnia per year, the minimum - about 3 thousand.

Those who wish to continue their education can do so in the magistracy.
