Reproduction of a home orchid at home - how to get one from one?

Reproduction of a domestic orchid at home depends on the genus to which it refers. The fact is that orchids are a family that includes a huge number of different genera and species. That is why the very term "house orchid", the reproduction of which is of interest to the florist, is somewhat incorrect.

The most popular for decorating the house are such orchids as "Phalaenopsis", "Dendrobiums", "Cattleya", "Vandy", "Miltonia" and several other varieties resulting from the crossing of natural species. Among them there are both sympodial and monopodial plants. What does it mean? Monopodial plants have only one growth point and one shoot. A vivid example can serve as an orchid "Phalaenopsis" - if the point of growth perishes, the whole plant is likely to die. Sympodial plants have several growth points and at the same time several shoots can develop. For example, "Dendrobium", "Miltonia", "Cattleya".

One of the first ways to think about ways to reproduce a domestic orchid at home is pollination and sowing seed-spores. It should be taken into account that this method seems simple only at first glance - in fact, it is possible to achieve results only by industrial methods. And although the flowering of orchids in the home is not uncommon, the ripening of the fruit lasts for a long time, and seeding seeds is a serious test because of their microscopic size.

In Southeast Asia, where the reproduction of orchids by this method is put on stream, spores are sown in bottles with nutrient solution and hermetically sealed. Special seedlings are grown on special farms, which can be bought freely, and when the plant is filled with a container, the vessel is broken and planted in a special soil. Even if such a procedure can be carried out at home, a few more years will pass before the plant becomes old enough for flowering.

Reproduction of a domestic orchid at home can be accomplished by division, if it is of the sympodial type. For this, when transplanting, you need to carefully divide the plant into several parts so that each root has enough roots. After that, the parts are seated in different pots, and care for them is carried out, as for older plants.

It is quite another thing - monopodial orchids. It is believed that in order to reproduce the home orchid at home successfully, you can resort to cuttings or stimulate the formation of children. And, as Strangely enough, the easiest "Phalaenopsis" reproduces with the greatest difficulties, since for the formation of children the plant must be in special conditions: the air temperature is 26 degrees and above. Babies are formed from sleeping buds at the base of the neck or on peduncles, even faded. In extreme cases, you can resort to the use of cytokinin paste, especially if a rare specimen of the mother plant is killed.

Still you can cut the peduncles, the main thing is that at each site there are at least 2 kidneys. The stalk should be put on wet moss in a greenhouse and monitor the temperature and humidity inside - they should be sufficient. Nevertheless, the peduncles of the "Phalaenopsis" still rarely germinate. Another thing, "Vanda" - for their reproduction requires only a piece of plant with several air roots, large enough specimens can be divided into many pieces.

So, the reproduction of orchids is a rather laborious and complicated matter, especially when it comes to monopodial specimens. That's why it's better to entrust this process to professionals.
