Mandarin from a bone to grow not difficultly

The traditional way of reproduction of citrus fruits (including mandarins) is rooting cuttings and grafting. But this is only possible if you have an adult varietal plant at hand. And if not? It remains to grow a mandarin from the bone.

This method will make it possible to obtain a root-owning plant, well adapted to the conditions in which it will grow. That is, if you, for example, are going to grow a mandarin in an apartment, then a plant from a cut from a "street" citrus will be very difficult to adapt to new conditions. In this case, a mandarin from a bone has a great advantage, since it "from childhood" will adapt to the conditions of an apartment that are far from natural (and, often, just extreme).

This method has two drawbacks. The first is that the mandarin from the bones will come into fruiting much later than the plant obtained from the cuttings or through vaccination. But this time can be reduced, using techniques that accelerate the growth of the plant and allow it to begin to bear fruit before the biological period. The second drawback is that the mandarin from the stone does not inherit the varietal qualities of the parent plant (unlike the seedling obtained by the vegetative method). But modern varieties of mandarins have quite stable varietal qualities, so you are unlikely to get a plant with inedible fruits.

In general, it is worthwhile to weigh all the pros and cons, but most likely the pros will outweigh. In that case, let's look at how to grow a mandarin from a bone. It's pretty simple. Cultivation of mandarin from a bone is not very laborious and can be done by any gardener, but, of course, has its own peculiarities. You can only sow citrus fruits with very fresh seeds. This should be done immediately after they are removed from the fruit, otherwise the seeds can dry out and lose their germination. Fruits for this purpose need to choose the most good, to taste and appearance. Some varieties of mandarins have very few seeds in the fetus. Bones from such fruits (with one seed) are not suitable for sowing, as they are not viable enough. It is best to take tangerines, in which there are 2-3 seeds or more (the more - the better). It is important that the fruits are fully ripened, you can not take seeds from the green mandarins for sowing, but from overripe and even spoiled it is quite possible. If you plan to grow mandarin in a room, it would be best to take a bone from a mandarin fruit, also grown in a room, or at least in a greenhouse. The plant, obtained from such a seed, will be already in the second generation "roomy", which means it will be easier to bear the unfavorable conditions of the apartment. If this is not possible, then a bone from any purchased mandarin will do.

The best time for sowing is January - February, planted at this time, the mandarin from the bones will use the growing light day more fully . But it is not necessary, in the apartment you can sow citrus fruits when fresh fruits are available. Seeds are planted in a flower pot or a shallow box filled with loose, fertile soil, to a depth of 1 cm., Abundantly watered. Germination of seeds for a long time, about a month. All this time do not forget to water the crops. To make the seeds sprout faster, you can hold their day soaked in a solution of any growth stimulant.

When the seedlings have two leaves, they are planted in separate small pots with the same soil (do not forget to make drainage in them). Transplant carefully, trying not to damage the root system. The stem is held at the root with two fingers, digs through a fork and, together with a clod of earth, is transferred to a new place, carefully compact the soil around the plant and watered.

It remains to add that in the same way you can grow from bones and other citrus fruits: oranges, lemons, grapefruits, etc.
