It happens that redness does not interfere with the working process and the quality of sight, then you can just relax, wash and wait until it passes. In all other cases it is necessary to determine the cause and conduct proper treatment. Consider the main options, because of which the redness of the vessels of the eyeball may occur.

  1. The impact of weather conditions (wind, cold, dust) and polluted environment (cigarette smoke, car exhausts ).
  2. Allergies that can occur when contact with fluffy pets, flowers, mold and cosmetics.
  3. Long work at the computer or stay in front of the TV.
  4. Sharp temperature and weather changes.

  6. Wearing contact lenses for longer than the prescribed time.
  7. Blepharitis is a disease in which cilia bulbs, located on the eyelid, become inflamed.
  8. Conjunctivitis - infection and inflammation of the eye.
  9. Uveitis is a disease in which the system of the ocular vessels is inflamed, depending on the pathogen, there are 2 types: toxic and infectious. Uveitis usually appears as a complication of diseases associated with the decline of immunity.

  11. Mechanical damage to the eyeball.
  12. Chronic fatigue.
  13. Flu, cold, SARS.
  14. Increased intraocular pressure, which may indicate the development of serious diseases, such as glaucoma.

It should be remembered that the degree of effectiveness of treatment directly depends on how accurately and in time the cause is determined, therefore, when the first disturbing symptoms should be addressed to the ophthalmologist.

Symptoms that accompany redness

Although the redness of the eyeball is fraught with different, but the symptoms are almost identical in all cases and easily identifiable at home by examining in front of the mirror. In addition to the visible network of blood vessels, you can observe red spots. Also usually itching and burning, dryness are added. Sometimes still there may be tearing, pain in the forehead and nose, purulent or mucous discharge.

How to treat red eyes?

After the cause of the reddening of the eyeball has been identified, treatment should be carried out without delaying it. And, depending on the situation, either alone, or under the strict supervision of a doctor. If you are faced with this trouble just because you sleep a little and get tired, then the treatment will be simple and pleasant: more rest and spend at night sleep for at least 8 hours.

If the pain and reddening of the eyeball are caused by a long hard work at the computer or behind documents, you need to take breaks every 15-20 minutes, giving yourself and your eyes a break. An excellent way to relax is a cup of hot tea, drunk at the window. Considering those close, far-away objects, you yourself without noticing, doing useful visual gymnastics.

If the allergy caused redness of the eyeball, the treatment should be primarily to eliminate the allergen, and to accelerate the restoration of eye beauty, you can use antihistamine drops ("Lecrolin", "Kromogeksal", "Allergoodil").

As for contact lenses, try to wear them no more than 8-10 hours a day and always use moisturizing drops.

Quick ways to eliminate redness

If you need to remove the red from the eyes urgently, you can resort to drops, with vasoconstrictive effect, sold without a prescription: Murina, Sofradex, Vizin. But do not often use them, because they do not have a therapeutic effect, only cosmetic. Since these drops are relatively expensive, you can use almost free tools that will give the same result. Having made tired eyes for a couple of minutes a pack of ice cubes or tea bags, you can relieve tension and redness.

If physical discomfort is accompanied by a partial loss of vision, it is urgent to see a doctor who prescribes treatment at home, and in the case of glaucoma, organizes emergency hospitalization.

Baby eyes

If the child has a reddening of the eyeball, the causes will differ somewhat from adults and reduces to one basic: the penetration of an infection that almost always causes conjunctivitis. Doctors divide it into three types: allergic, viral, bacterial. Despite the classification, the symptoms are identical:

  • Increased photosensitivity;
  • Redness of the eyeball in the child;
  • Itching and burning;
  • Sensation of grains of sand in the eye;
  • Mucous or purulent discharge.

The only thing that differentiates allergic conjunctivitis from the other two is the absence of redness. A viral type that occurs with colds can affect only one eye, but if the person does not receive timely treatment, the disease spreads to the second eye. The cause of bacterial conjunctivitis is the banal non-compliance with hygiene rules.

Children's eyes are very susceptible, do not experiment with self-medication, but it is better to immediately consult a doctor who will prescribe all the necessary drugs for you.
