Record speed on the bike. Maximum speed

What is the maximum speed that a person can develop while riding a bicycle? There are many records achieved in different conditions, in different situations and at different times.

Speed of cycling

An ordinary untrained person who does not hurry anywhere, on the city road can move at a speed of about 12-15 km per hour, if we take into account both the descents and the ascent of the road. This value is taken as the average speed of the bike.

A slightly training person on a bike with certain conveniences (for example, there are available tuklips, gear change, good brakes) is able to move faster - at a speed of 30 km / h.

And if the same person is transplanted to a highway lightweight bicycle, for example, without a rear and a front wing, then on the flatest part he can accelerate it to 40 km / h and continue to hold this speed for several minutes.

There are not only speed records on the bike, but also world records on speed retention. In 2005, at the famous cycling track in Krylatskoe, the representative of the Czech Republic O. Sosenka kept the achieved speed (49.7 km / h) on the bike for 60 minutes. He could not hold the value of 50 km / h due to the fact that his bike had only one gear and a rather high saddle. Such a record is complicated by the wear and tear of forces.

On good roads, you can safely maintain a high speed of 60-70 km / h on a 9 km downhill, even on heavy mountain bikes. It turns out that for the maximum speed for ordinary cyclists, these values should be taken.

How did it all start?

Cyclist Jose Mefret established a world speed record on a bicycle (204.73 km / h) in 1962 in Friedberg (Germany). And it all started before. Since the very creation of the bike, many attempts have been made to achieve maximum driving speed.

Perhaps, it is worth talking about the most significant and important records in the history of the development of this sport, and the transport itself.

In 1899, Charles Murphy, after training for about 2 months, decided to set a record speed of driving in Long Island by rail. To do this, it was necessary to attach one car to the locomotive and equip it with a hood so that the cyclist could escape from the wind. At first, due to the error of Murphy himself, he fell behind the train, but then after all caught up with him. Thus, in June 1899, a maximum speed record was set. It was 100.2 km / h.

The next speed record on the bike was delivered only in 1937. This happened in Los Angeles (California). Record holder Albert Marche moved behind the car, which was also equipped with a fabric frame, so that the cyclist would move inside it. His record was 139 km / h.

In 5 years, in 1942, a new record was set (again in California). And in this case the car ahead was racing, and the bicycle was improved. At that time, record-holder Alf Leturne developed the highest speed on a bicycle.

The record was fixed at 175 km / h. But on this world achievements have not ended.

Records. World record of speed on a bicycle

The absolute record of speed of movement on a bicycle is established in 1995. Its value is 268.8 km / h. This was achieved by the Dutchman Fred Rompelberg. The record was important and valuable not only for the rider, as he turned 50 this year.

This event took place on the track in Utah (USA). It was an ideal flat surface of an ancient lake (salt), this is the Bonneville plain. And the bike was specially equipped (significantly increased gear ratio and special transmission system to the rear sprocket). And, as always, in front of him was moving car, which also created behind itself a zone of reduced pressure.

Speed record on a mountain bike

Descents from the mountain can also be under different conditions: on the ice surface and ground. Therefore, the records are divided.

On the winter track on mountain bike, with excellent equipment of transport (excellent aerodynamics of the bike, aerodynamic outfit), the speed record on the bicycle is firmly held by the athlete Eric Baron. In 2000, in the Alps (April 12), he dispersed his bicycle to 222 km / h.

Despite the fact that he descended from the mountain, his record was lower than the absolute (F. Rompelberg). And yet you need to take into account that the resistance of the air during descent has increased more and more, and the vibration has increased, worsening the stability of transport. This vibration also prevented him from setting a record on the gravel descent (a sad finish).

Two years later, on the slope of the city of Sierra Negro, the same athlete took the third place, after the previous own second, literally "driving" about 400 meters down the gravel. It was a real hell for a cyclist: at the finish of this terrible gap, the maximum speed of the bike reached 210.4 kilometers per hour, and his bike literally exploded.

Good training, competent protection and a quality helmet helped Baron survive in such a deadly dangerous situation.

There is no limit to human and technical capabilities. Man will always strive to conquer new heights.
